Word of advice...

Post by Treebore »

When your a 9th level party in C&C, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT attack a Lich. Especially one who can cast Time Stop.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yeah, maybe if we had all attacked as one, and won initiative. As it is, he handed us our butts! Time Stop is BRUTAL when it allows an Archmage to throw a couple of spells at you, seemingly at the same time.

I'm surprised that this obviously epic fatal battle is not noted in greater detail or even a poem.

The brave heroes gathered, virtuous and fair
before them, stairs descended into blackness
The knight wondered "What's down there?"
The paranoid rogue was rather less curious

But they gathered their courage, and descended the stairs
a stony library therein, and a bed, and a table
But though they listened and searched with great care
Their doom stood there to be seen but none were able

So the knight gathered his powers, and looked with true sight
and there he saw a decrepit corpse, glaring back at him with long lived ire
"charge!" yelled the cavalier, noble and brave as all knights
The rogue began to look around, for a suitable location for the party's funeral biers

At that point, dear listeners, it all became a bit of a blur
For the lich had cast time stop, which allowed him to be a meany at his leisure
and many horrible things to this noble party then did occur
the knight was turned to stone, and thus in a way was now "lich treasure"

Being singed, and force walled, and stoned was no delight
I can tell you gentle listeners with truth and solemn gravity
For being the rogue mentioned above I felt the lich's might
We retreated forthwith but down a knight which was a pity

Reluctantly, but in desperation, the rogue approached the unharmed lich
using his sweetest words, he made an offer of mutual benefit
the party would aid the lich, so he could remain safe in his niche
and in return the knight was restored, and was no longer granite

So the "Cavalier" got his due.. but he forced the party to deal with pure evil for his/her freedom..

There must be some Clerical/Paladin/Knight Atonement going on..

Oh that must have been fun!
