Dragon Armor

What exactly does this spell do?
I am unsure as to whether it gives +1 AC, or whether it gives the AC of a +1 suit of plate (+8 or +9 depending on whether or not it is Full Plate).

I would rule that the spell gives a +1 to AC as the description says the effect is a +1 to AC, but looks and sounds like plate armor for purposes of Move Silently and Hide checks.

The power is to disguise a whole party into looking like plate mailed guards (I assume of the same style as the true local guards).. you march in step, clanking away and you can fool everyone as you march out of the place or into the place... PLUS all disguised folks get a +1 to AC too.. an illusion with some toughness.

What about for other purposes? Could you stick it on an enemy Wizard/Illusionist/Druid/Monk in order to prevent them from using their class features?

The wizard, illusionist or druid would not be wearing armor.. the illusion LOOKS like armor but is not. It has an audible portion so it makes noise... thus you could put it on a thief, assassin, or ranger to make them make noise when they move, but you got to touch them first and that if not by total surprise I would would assume would then be a touch attack.

In general it is best to "use spells" as they were "intended" to be used. Going into odd methods of use require the CK to get involved and if you annoy them enough spells become officially edited by the CK or disappear from one's spell book mysteriously

You could try, but I wouldn't have it prevent spellcasting, as it's not really armor.

The "Dragon Illusionist Spells" strike again! In my estimation, this spell is a simple illusion that grants an image of full-plate armor, but because it is simple it only provides a +1 AC.

How powerful do you want it to be? There are several options...

1) It gives AC equivalent to plate mail.
2) It gives AC equal to plate mail until contact is made -- effective for one strike.
3) It gives a static +1 bonus but appears to be plate mail (or whatever)
4) Yields +1 bonus until first strike

And more. Such as "can it provide benefit as true dragon armor such as immunity to fire?" That answer depends on what your Castle Keeper allows illusions to do, which should be based on the spell level.

I don't use this spell (I only use the C&C 1st print PHB) so I'm not sure about its exact wording. But, I would likely not allow it anything more than a simple bonus... and then the illusion is dispelled. For my game, that means #4.

Now I'm as confused most times as the next guy, possibly more so, but this spell is pretty straight forward and explicit. Illusion of armor on all touched (no limit other than duration of spell I guess)... they look and sound like they have armor BUT without encumbrance... only +1 to AC. Duration 1 min/level.. not when touched/hit. The AC is not cumulative (if the spell is cast multiple times).. its only a 1st level spell and pretty good and IMHO pretty straight forward. Lots of fun discussion, but Giant2004, you got the answers/ideas/discussion you need?

Traveller, There is a type-o that should be fixed.. last sentence says "AS" not "AC". Not errata, just type-o to fix... unless AS means something I've forgotten.

Seems as if the spell was intended to give spell casters a chance of not being identified by not wearing armor.
