Regeneration vs Resurrection

Post by Captain_K »

If Resurrection fixes everything, then why is regeneration at 7th level? Seems like it would fit nicely at 6th level.

Broken bones... fun to have happen... wound the snot out of PCs.. do tons of h.p. damage, even into negatives and many cure light wounds will do the trick. Break a finger or leg and you need a 7th lvl cleric spell.

Anyone use Burol's Bones... a specific bone fixing spell at 3rd level... seems perfect to me. You can fix hearing, sight and all diseases... why not fix a broken finger. Not talking about regenerate a leg, just fix a broken leg bone.

Thoughts? How do you handle these?

Lesser Regeneration to fix crippled or damaged organs and limbs, only one item per casting, some expensive costs possibly. Thoughts? Is it needed? Our group has been adding in "bad effects" for description of wounds and the like then realizes, oops that's beyond our cleric's abilities for a long time to come....

I think that if you are going to be using house rules that include dismembering body parts or having broken bones being the results of say, critical hits for example, then there should be a way for a cleric to heal those wounds at a lower level. In a more orthodox game I don't think it's a problem, but with those house rules it most likely will mean that you will need an 11th level cleric minimum just to fix all those broken bones and severed body parts. In that type of game, the party will soon be pretty bad off, most of them will be lame and out of commission/retired way before reaching 11th level. With all that being said, I would allow Cure Light Wounds capable of healing broken bones and Cure Serious Wounds capable of healing severed limbs. Regeneration would only be useful if the severed limb cannot be located and recovered.

That's a simpler plan than making new spells. we do the old "auto cure" at any level spell by converting any memorized spell to a cure spell of that level in d8 of curing plus WIS bonus and level bonus up to max of spell. but I like it that a 3rd level spell attaches bits and a 2nd lvl spell fixes broken bones... an easy table of what 1st second 3rd etc fixes with the hp healing and its logical.
