Rules questions and clarification from a newb french CK

Hello everyone,

First, I wanna present myself a little bit. I'm French, live in France, and, from internet, I discovered the system of C&C and i really love it. I was looking for one easy but complete for years now. Thank you TLG ! Nice compromise between fun and regular rule (I hate D&D3.5, too heavy for my occasional players).

Recently bought the book, i read it several time.

But got some questions :

1) (p.46, almost at the end of the page)

"... although a high or low Intelligence score might grant bonus spells or but take away from the typical number of daily spells gained".

Seems that my english is not so good, so I do not understand the meaning. May someone help me?
2) (p.48, Concentration)

Ok, that mean if the concentration is interrupted, the spell is lost... or disrupt? Not clear for me...

3) (p.116, Movement in combat round)

"Generally, the movement rate should not be reduced by more than three-forth (0.75)"

So, that means for a human, he can at least walk for 8 feet per round in hasardous terrain?

4) And what about that : "the CK should always allow a character to move at least 5 feet in a combat round"

Does that mean a spellcaster may move 5 feet as well?

5) (p.125)

about the character Suryc being surprised, the player cast die and did 15... for a total of 17? I thought that only 16, because his wisdow is only 15 (+1 modifier)...

6) Do we add character's lvl or HD to wisdom check to see if the character/monster is surprised? An experienced character might have less possibility of being surprised?

7) (p.116, Charging)

If a charge is negated, the attacker is still allowed their movement (30-60 feet for an human) and attack. Is that right?

8) (p.125, exemple of fight)

To avoid being tripped by the worg, Suryc is allowed a dexterity check.

He rolled 11 + 6 (his lvl) + 1 (dexterity modifier) = 18... so why it is said 19?

9) (p.126)

the caracther Bjorn stroke at 2 goblins in the same time. Just to notice the mistype : "Since the goblins are a ll of 1D6 Hit Dice", think it's Lvl, right?

10) (p.50, about spell resistance)

What about unconscious target? Can we say he has dropped his spell resistance?

11) (p.112)

I think there is a mistype, in the second paragraph.

"A Saving throw is simply an attribute check... or effects. Saving throw are uniue only in..."

Maybe it's for the word unique?

12) (p.120, Hit Points, 4th paragraph)

"A 3d12+4 indicates that three 12 dice are rolled and 4 added to each die rolled."

I think it should be "A 3d12+4 indicates that three 12 dice are rolled and 4 added to the total".

13) (p.118)

"Magic armor do not affect magic touch."

Uhm, I can hardly understand the meaning.

Well, maybe some of those questions have already appeared in some other topics. So sorry to bother u all again.

And maybe that's because I'm a poor French trying to translate the rules, that I don't understand anything...

But thank you for the time U will spend to reply me.

(and sorry if my english is bad )

1) Uhm... Was thinking wrong cuz I read, p.16, BONUS SPELL, it's only talking about adding, not taking away...

2) Is the effect lost for the round or spell lost from the spellcaster's memory?

3) Ok

4) Ok

5) (p.125)

about the character Suryc being surprised, the player cast die and did 15... for a total of 17? I thought that only 16, because his wisdow is only 15 (+1 modifier)...
Quote:
Il est 17 parce que de niveau est ajout de tels roulements, et ce PC est 1er.

??? sorry, still don't understand...
6) so why in the example of play, the lvl is not counted in the wisdow check for "being surprised"?.

7) Ok

8) Oh? errata, didn't see it...

9) yes, it's in the second printing

10) So Spell resistance is an active ability... ok...

11) Ok

12) Ok

13) Ok

Thank you just need clarification for 1) 2) 5) 6)

1) Ok, understood !

2) Ok. (maybe for 3rd printing, to be more clear... , joking)

5) his lvl was 5 or 6, so it's an errata...

6) Ok !

Thank You, mr Serleran!

Je m'excuse. I shall refrain from using the language then, if I have massacred it so horribly as to be incomprehensible. I chose to use French since the poster said his English is bad, and my usual English writing can be difficult to understand even for native speakers, so I wanted to at least be reasonable in response, and hope he'd get the general meaning... since I am not fluent in French.

You can criticize the game as much as you like, regardless of its dithyrambic nature. No reason to hide behind another site to say what you do not like about the game... we've seen it all before. :)

Hehe, I understand english, but sometimes I translate from french, and I don't like to massacre myself English
Thank you for the welcome.

I'm sure Serleran answered your questions well, but I couldn't say for sure since my skill set doesn't include speaking French.

Regardless, welcome to the Crusade, sir!

I dunno. I'd say that was a compliment.

dithyrambic: A wildly enthusiastic speech or piece of writing. ^_~`

Yeah... wildly enthusiastic criticism... which is good, actually, since the game is far from perfect. Why else would I want to see the criticism here, rather than hidden on a site most here probably are unaware of?

I assume this is GROG...

Yes, that's the site. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to post the link (it's forbidden to post links when you're a newbie on the boards).

It's maybe the most well-known of French RPG sites...

I think it's worth an errata. I guess that, in earlier versions of the rules, low INT/WIS gave you less spells per day. That's not the case with the current rules.
Kaze wrote:

Ok, that mean if the concentration is interrupted, the spell is lost... or disrupt? Not clear for me...
Basically, the spell is lost (for the day).

Alternatively, the CK may allow a concentration check :

- failure : the spell is lost (as above)

- success : the spell is just disrupted (not lost) or, if the CK feels nice, the spell works
Kaze wrote:

Surprise is a standard Wisdom Check. So, yes, level is addded.

It's a mistake, the total bonus should be much higher : at least +1 for wisdom and +6 for level.

The description of the character looks wrong, because we don't know if she follows her human of elf lineage (in which case I would also give her a +2 bonus for Enhanced Senses).

Well, I understand more with Philippe Tromeur's reply than with Serleran's one... lol

Yeah, that's been done to prevent (or at least limit) the amount of Spam that comes in. Scriptobots can't just sign in and create links to websites... they at least have to post a few times, first, so when we get Spam, we get a lot of it. :)

uhm... i think there's another errata to do on that :

on CK screen, it is said : Disarm* only figther, Ranger, knight, rogue, cleric and paladin can disarm

on Core rule book + add : Disarm* only figther, Ranger, knight, rogue, ASSASSIN, cleric and paladin can disarm

any ideas?

I'd allow any PC to try a disarm, but given the way the tactic works... only the "fighter types" will be any good at it. Otherwise, the CK screen should list what the PHB lists, or vice versa... depending on which is errata, but its obvious one of them is. ;) You pick. ;)

The Screen is the one with the Eratta. Assassin is sposed to be in there. Go with the core rule book if you want an 'official' answer. ^_~`

I've read those reviews before and I can assure you that they are very positive, especially when considering that those guys at GROG (maybe the most well known French-language RPG-related site) tend to be harshly critical towards "old-school" fantasy RPGs in general...

I read them too. I can read French just fine, but speaking it... or, well, writing it, is not my fort, obviously. I was just saying that its alright to post any type of criticism here, too... we've seen the harshest lambastes and the most drooling fan-boyism.
