Rangers: Armors Allowed

Post by revenant »

Hi there, a quick question: in the errata.pdf document I get from your site (at /newsite/downloads/pdfs/errata.pdf) I read on the table at bottom of Page 1 that Rangers can use the following types of armor:
Breastplate, chainmail, chain shirt, hide, leather, chain coif, armor, leather coat, padded, ring mail, scale mail, normal helm, studded leather

From the hardcopy PHB labeled TLG80102 on the back hardcover, bought in Jan 2007, I have this list instead (page 13):
Breastplate, chainmail hauberk & shirt, cuir bouille, greek ensemble, leather, chain coif, leather coat, padded, ring mail, scale mail, studded leather

'Though I'd be inclined to think that it'd make more sense for a Ranger to wear hide than greek ensemble (with all those bronze plate things), I was curious to learn what's the official/latest stance from the Troll Lords on this.

Thanks to anyone who can help to discern this!

I believe that that errata is for the 1st printing of the PHB. Traveller has an "unoffically" official one for the 2nd printing. Which I can't seem to find on the C&C Players site. Perhaps Traveller would like to chime in here on where to find the new errata file.

::does some Thread Necromancy::

Umm, why are Rangers allowed Breastplates and Scale, considering the former is the last thing someone who stalks animals in the wild would wear, while the latter is armor usually worn by cavalry?

It depends on the type of ranger you want to play?

Wilderness scout.....

Or an advance scout for an army. A knight of sorts with tracking skills.

And, its mostly an AC granted, rather than an armor type, as far as I can tell... it'd been easier to just say: Rangers can wear any armor that grants an AC of +5 or less. But, that's me.

I thought it was a combination of AC bonus as well as the probable difficulty in moving about while wearing armor of a certain type.

The Bard, can wear a Breastplate, but not a full chainmail suit. I look at it as the breastplate allows for greater fluidity in regards to movement, the chainmail just gets in the way. (Or was it Scalemail?)
