New Around Here...

Hey everyone... just found this site and the whole "C&C" experience. I'm an old school gamer from the 80's and think I may have hit the motherlode here. As with most things, however, I am a bit overwhelmed... What should I start with, rulebook-wise (i.e, what is the PH, DMG and MM)?

And since I live in Little Rock, can I just drive over and pick it up?
thanks,

Kim

The players Handbook and Monsters & Treasures will give you all the gaming goodness you need.

Indeed; the Castle Keeper's Guide, which is being released this summer, is more of an Unearthed Arcana for C&C than a true DMG.

Also, though, I'd add to 'Dwarf's suggestion that you pick up the CK Screens. They're stunning and some of the best screens I've seen; they really do enable you to run without opening the book hardly at all...even the treasure tables and experience tables are in there! They suffer for not having rules to determine CC of a spell save, but that's about it.

Welcome to the Crusade!!

I just started myself. I bought my PHB and M&T on Amazon for $13 each, and that's really all you need to start. The community here is very friendly, and they will help you find all kinds of good links and advice for the game. Take a look at this thread. It addresses all the concerns I had as I was leaving my TSR/WotC comfort zone and starting to think about C&C.

Good luck and have fun.

We welcome you with swords raised on high. Welcome to the Crusade.

PHB & M&T is all you'll ever need to run fantastic swords and sorcery adventures. Of course, once you've gotten the taste of what C&C has to offer, there are a plethora of modules and settings to choose from, both from Troll Lord Games and from the fans here.

Hello and welcome. Glad to have you with us!

Yes, by all means, drop in on the Trolls. Most excellent fellows.

Enjoy the game!

Just to reiterate - that really is all you need. I bought both, homebrewed a campaign, and haven't needed to purchase anything else. I was a gamer back in the mid-to-late 70s and early 80s and this is definitely old school goodness!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome

I'm also an old 80s D&D gamer and pretty new to C&C but in the last couple of weeks I at last feel like I've recaptured the feeling i had when I was a teen and started playing for the first time.

As has been said above the community here is really friendlywith all kinds of advice and links...check out - http://www.dragonsfoot.org/cc/ and http://www.cncplayer.net/ & http://www.geocities.com/cnctraveller/cnc1.html for loads of great stuff.

Also the campaign world of Airhde is the closest in terms of epic history and the feel of a lost ancient grandeur to Middle Earth that I've come across.

You will love it!

Happy Crusading...

Ditto! I even started gaming in '85. Not only do I hope it works for you, but for a group of your players too!

I feel the same, I think it was another of Pete's jokes only Pete can understand.

Gideon, just so long as its not the "Schwartz".
Kim, welcome aboard! Yes, the PHB and M&T is all you need. You can squeak by with just the PHB if you've got some AD&D Monster Manuals, but I'd reccomend getting the M&T anyway as it not only got a more intuitive Treasure system but breaks said treasure into things like lost art objects of worth and other things instead of just the ubiquitous XYZ number of gp.
Oh, and did you ever hear from Heather & Nathan?

As a kid I had a teacher who would jokingly have the class celebrate National Trucker's Day on October 4th every year.

The bear's about two yard sticks past the chicken coop. Get past him and I'll run ahead and shake the bushes if you'll catch the back door.

Questions are cool. This is the best on-line community I've seen. Plenty of knowledgeable people here to help you with any questions you may have.

Every now and again, we actually stay on topic too!
