Is it the same adventure?

Better yet... is there a way that a loyal member of the Castles & Crusades Society can get a copy for a modest fee to cover costs?

(understandably after Free RPG Day)

Anyone planning on running some C&C at their FLGS to garner some new players? I'm thinking of doing so.

I was, but it looks like they aren't doing it this year (even though they said they would be). I did it last year and I'd happily do it again.

Just another reason to hate my FLGS. They aren't participating in Free RPG Day.

When I asked the clerk why she shrugged and said it was too expensive.
Honestly. That's what she said. I'm not making it up.

Checking with my FLGS (Games & Comics & Stuff, Glen Burnie, MD) to see if they've got a slot I can fill.

um... is it free for stores to participate?

I guess they didn't see a bump in sales last year?

It seems like a no-brainer, get people in the stores any way you can.

It's isn't free and the stores do end up paying for it however part of the price I believe includes the shipping so the stores are not paying that much to get people in the door of their store compared to other forms of advertising.

The problem is a lot of stores do not know how to take proper advantage of it.

Some people come in just to get the free stuff and just turn around and leave again. Then again, some stores don't do anything special on that day either. Free RPG day needs to be better advertised in these stores too. The ones local to me didn't advertise at all so the people that come out to the stores are coming in just to get their freebies and sometimes do not have the intention of buying anything.

However, if you ran events around it, you have a greater chance of capitalizing on something. Stores need to do this better but some stores unfortunately do not have the space.

I've heard of plenty of stores mismanaging Free RPG Day and I know some stores didn't see the positive value of continuing it after a luke-warm reaction (at best) to it in the past. However, this is again dependent on the store in question.

It does cost them something, so if stores don't take advantage of the day to run stuff, then they could end up losing money on the day. Of course, if you run something and the store doesn't have the game's books on hand to take advantage of the demos, that's not good either.

Makes sense.

It's true, I heard of FRPGD from here, not the local store, and only popped in to grab the Free TLG stuff. I do think they were doing events that day also, though, so they had a clue about capitalizing on it.

Well, since my local store takes the F out of FLGS I can see why they didnt do so well at Free RPG Day. That only gets people in for so long and its up to the employees once they are face to face to get the customer looking at other things. But since I cant stand the cashiers there I'd just run in and out ,too.

Just heard back from the FLGS that they're open to me running C&C, so if you're in the Baltimore area, there will be C&C at Games, Comics & Stuff in Glen Burnie. Details to follow as I coordinate with Ed & Matthew of GCS.

My game store allows one free item for visiting, but then allows another free item for each $50 you spend. It's really hard to get a bunch of sample items to look at that way.

I think mine was 1 freebie, or may be 2, but I went at the end of the day last year and they were like, "ok take whatever off the free table so we don't have to fill our dumpster with it"

My gamestore gave a freebie away to everyone who signed up to play in a game being run by volunteer GMs. Several games over the day, on multiple tables. All the free stuff was picked up.

Basically, it's the Quickstart with the Wizard's Tower (similar to the one previously released as a PDF). Got the info from Steve when he stopped by Society chat a couple of weeks ago.

Thats BS! If I could pull of pretending to be an LGS I would order a couple of boxes for myself. I don't remember exactly the price, and I haven't checked since the first year, but I remember each box being under $50, maybe even under $30, and the other thing I definitely remember is the price was cheap for what was in it.

I think the Free RPG day boxes cost about $150 each last year.

I would've tried that trick if it'd worked.
