[Newbie Question] Is C&C designed to simplify D&D 3r

Allow for D20 based conversion of old AD&D/Classic D&D material?
Or both?
I'm just wondering how easy it is to, say, convert old AD&D Planescape stuff to C&C, or use the AD&D Spell Compendiums with C&C.
I'm also curious as to how easy it would be to convert stuff from, say, Eberron or Midnight.

Both.

Trivially easy.

IMO, 3E stuff is not as easy as converting Classic or AD&D material, but not that hard, either.

The underlying attitude seems to be that it's easier to convert pre3.x stuff to C&C than it is to convert 3.x.
I personally don't really think it's that difficult to convert 3.x stuff over, and Grey Elf has conversion guidelines in pdf form here:
http://www.grey-elf.com/candc/ Under House Rules and Resources.
Chris Rutkowsky (Bashman) posted the way he converted Mysterious Tower from d20 to C&C for Goodman Games. You can find his post here:

Hopefully those two bits can answer your questions. Since you're moving downwards in terms of overall complexity, it's really not much of an issue overall. Where you're most likely to struggle, is in trying to take specific kinds of classes out of 3.x/d20 and move them into the C&C framework.
Converting classes is pretty much a "by guess and by golly" kind of approach. There isn't a coherent system currently in place for this. Here's a link to the most recent inquiry into this sort of thing, along with my responses:

C&C is designed for the purpose of the group to make of it what best suits the group. ^_^

Midnight Conversion

Due to the magic system in the Midnight campaign setting being primarily feat based and open to all classes, I've found that to be a difficult conversion to C&C. Not saying it can't be done, just plan on spending a decent amount of time on it as compared to other conversions.
If you search this forum and the forums dedicated to the Midnight campaign setting, I believe you'll find various discussions about this topic.

The magic system from Midnight was fairly easy to convert. I had done a conversion of the channelers and as for the feats allowing non-channelers to use magic, I simply added something similar to them in the skills system laid out in the CZ download.

I don't know if the system was designed for either (although it does allow for conversions from earlier or later versions of D&D.)
IMHO earlier editions are easier to convert, 3E is a snap at lower levels, but harder at higher level. Still nothing too hard
I'm not familar with either setting, but I really don't think it would be overly hard, I know both have been discussed here on the boards.

Read the Metamagic thread in this forum. Look for my post on how I do meta magic feats, since I believe it will also work as a basis for doing magic "Midnight style".

Its incredibly easy. IF you don't "see" how download SKYPE and we can talk about how its so easy to do.
IF you have SKYPE my SKYPE name is treebore.therubylord
I'll be running my C&C SKYPE game tonight from 6 PM to 9 PM PST. So you can catch me on shortly before or after.

Depends on how closely you want to adhere to the original. If you want something very close, it could be more of a challenge for both settings, but not impossible.
For Heroic Paths, the key would be to simply assign the bonuses a player would get for bonus feat slots. As you've seen, there's been discussion on the magic system.
If you're looking for quick and easy, the non-spellcasting Ranger and Bard greatly help.
For Eberron, the way feats are used to for Shifters and DragonMarked are the biggest challenge. See my thread below, "Races of Eberron" for one way of doing it.
Then again, you could just use dual class rules to represent the racial growth of these characters.

Hmm. Maybe I'll wait for the Castle Keeper's guide- do we know if that'll have rules for racial templates stronger than the norm?

They are being very top secret so far. I think they'll tell us more once they finish and start lay out.

Conversion is not even necessary. I ran Basic D&D and AD&D modules for C&C without making any conversions at all (other than translating AC in my head. It is easy. 20- Listed AC= New AC. So a monster listed as AC 4 would be AC 16 in C&C).

*chuckles* I'd imagine something as profound and insightful as whats presented on pages 6-7 of the M&T myself.

Before I forget, another tip that gets pass around for converting on the fly is that you base the to-hit bonus on the HD of the critter and ignore THACO.

As for Eberron, contact Jynx on the board. He's gotten a great head start on playtested C&C material for the setting.
