Swashbuckling ????

I've lately gotten the bug for some swashbuckling ideas. Are there any good games out there worth looking at for at least back ground info, and that are also easy to convert to C&C?
I've seen 7th sea & it looks like a VERY complete world, but don't know about the "game crunch". Also the Alderic's "Swashbuckling" game looks fairly good & also the Avalanche press's "all for one" but I've seen no comments about them. I've a copy of the D&D2 "mighty fortress" some where but that was a bit bland for my taste....
I know there are some good home brew ideas out there - the duelist class for example- so I'm sure others have at least had the same question as I.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Demanding that Action Dice be spent only when the action is described in a swashbucking fashion is a simple rule that seemed to help my game.

Renting a few pirate movies that don't revolve around theme parks can help too! In the last piratey game I ran I asked around the table and I was the only one who had seen Captain Blood. Even worse, two of the guys didn't even know who Errol Flynn was!

7th Sea, Flashing Blades, Lace and Steel, Pirates of Dark Water, Of Ships and the Sea (AD&D 2nd Edition), Avast!, and hundreds of others.

The Savage Worlds guys just released the Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG. Its basically Savage Worlds dressed up for the Pirates game, but we bought it the other day, and its gorgeous - and typically well done. Its got a lot of fluff and flavor about pirates and sailing and fencing schools and such - you might check it out to see if it could be a valuable resource.
So far I've found that - despite their very different combat/damage system - Savage Worlds stuff and C&C are fairly easy to port back and forth.

There's also Green Ronin's Freeport. A new mechanics-free setting book is due out soon.

Seriously? That's cool. I always liked Freeport, but never the v3.5 or True20 mechanic. Setting free setting book is awesome!

Yup, The Pirate's Guide to Freeport. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm done with 3.5, and i've decided against True20. I'm very psyched for this book.
They have a dedicated site for it now:

I like how Chris Pramas decribed Freeport:
"Some people have described Freeport as a cross between Dungeons & Dragons and Call of Cthulhu but that's not quite right. If D&D and CoC went on a date and conceived an unholy progeny while watching Pirates of the Caribbean, THAT would be Freeport. Sound like fun yet?"

So you get a whole book waiting to be written with a cool cover delivered to your doorstep?

I like Freeport and have been a fan of Green Ronin ever since I got "Book of the Righteous". So I definitely look forward to this.

That is some sweet, sweet news. Thanks for the hookup. When's the release date on this badboy?

Pirates of Dark Water
There's another Pirates of DarkWater fan in here... oh man, I loved that show so much. Watching it a few years ago, it is really dated and has some crappy animation but the story/content is so there. Fantastic concept, that would make a great RPG setting. Fo' shizzle.

Is that the red boxed game with a guy fighting a satyr? If so I might have it, All my stuff is boxed up & shipping to Fl. Even before the move I had all my boxed sets in storage so my wife wouldn't kill me right after the wedding......... (my book collection awed & annoyed her) I'll have to dig it out after I get to Fl
I've liked GR's stuff & saw their Skull & bones rules, but was shying away from the 3.e crunch stuff. I've never gotten into freeport but will keep an eye out for the pirate's guide
Thanks
