According to gideon_throne some months ago, he said that the idea of the C&C Basic Box was to do the same exact thing Mentzer basic did... except C&C Basic is probably going up to level 12.

But this does not mean they plan to split C&C into different "versions" a la Mentzer set D&D and the parallel AD&D system? I hope not.

Nope. It just means there are two markets being aimed at. Experienced players and new players.

Complete introductory sets are more useful for new players.

Nope, not as least from what I've heard on this subject. This is like the TLG project I'm most waiting for so I've been gobbling up any information that the Troll dudes have been dropping regarding this. I don't beleive that TLG has any plans to sell the 1st 12 leves in a box set, and then any other box set relating to Basic C&C after that.

However, I do believe this will be a definative break between CORE C&C and Basic C&C. Maybe some of us will move on to classify outselves as Basic C&C players, while others will call themselves CORE C&C players.
