ROF question

I don't know if I'm looking hard enough but I can't find any info on the rate of fire for the bow and arrow or is it supposed to be one shot per round?

Its based on class. As per the rules only the fighter can get multiple attacks. However, house rule whatever makes sense to you.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Thanks for the info Treebore. I'm one of those weird people who try to play "by the book" as much as possible only house ruling when absolutely necessary. If the rule is one shot per round then one shot it is except for a 10th level fighter

I house ruled to allow one additional attack by making a successful SIEGE check (TN 12 + HD of opponent, player add their level only) to see if they are able to create an additional opening in the defenses of their opponent. Only one such check per round. Plus I ask my players to only request the check when they feel they need it to win the fight.

Its worked pretty well for my two groups.

I'm giving a ROF of 2 to anything that had a rate of fire higher than 1 in AD&D... but with the same penalties as two-weapon fighting. That is, -3 for the first shot, -6 for second. Both can be reduce to zero by dex modifiers.

Definitely not by the book though.

Everyone here hates to answer "by the book", but I concur wiith Treebore that it's based on the class as opposed to by weapon.

I try to balance things out so that players will not base weapon choices merely on munchkinism. Heavy crossbows do 1d10, so I limit them to fire every other round. Darts do much less damage, so a character can throw three in a round; daggers=2 per round. Most of the other weapons do 1d6, or at least I treat them so, and leave them as firing once per round.

I don't think I'm going to give strength bonuses to damage for hurled weapons; I don't want every fighter throwing darts, any more than I want them all using heavy crossbows.

All weapons are a RoF = 1, unless you have a class ability or spell that says otherwise. You can also attack with two weapons if you don't want a single attack, but doing so imposes the dual-wielding penalties/restrictions. Sometimes, these can even "stack" together.
