Working on a weapon list (finished!)

Post by Zulgyan »

Ok, so I've been working on a weapon list and I'm having trouble with pole arms and reach weapons. I need a minimun amount of polearms to fullfil each role.

Let's see:

Fighting pole-arms: halberd, bardiche (I would have stayed with just halberd but the bardiche is popular at my table.

Double dmg vs. charge: Longspear, ?

Dismount riders: ?

Good at disarming: ?

For Triping: ?

Thanks, before hand

How about these? They're charts that I use in my game.

Or, just use the halberd. It does everything.

Is that your way of saying that you find them to be too good when compared to other weapons?

To be honest, in using this chart I haven't had players scrambling to use any particular weapon more than others.

The charts, for those who want them, are in my modified C&C rules (called AD&D 3rd Edition). It's located at:
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~dp58/AD&D3.pdf

A word of warning: The file is 17Mb in size and might take a while to download. Feel free to check out other files I have at:

Ok, I manage to fit all my weapons into a single page. Note I use a critical sistem similar to 3rd Edition. Also note I used no weights and just go with "common sense" encumbrance.

No, I'm saying, historically speaking, the halberd is the best polearm (I don't consider a spear to be a polearm because it can be thrown.) There were numerous "schools" (albeit, a little outside the "Dark Ages") of halberd fighting, wherein they trained you how to trip, disarm, dismount, fight in ranks, and all kinds of other things... unlike what I've found for other weapons where it was mostly "get in line, poke people" because the majority of polearm wielders, seemingly, were peasants and serfs and not "fit" for actual training. Those who used the halberd were different... almost an elite foot soldier, as it were.

Seriously, though, a halberd can perform every function of every other polearm (except spear, because halberds can't really be thrown very well.) They are like the Swiss Army Polearm... of doom.

So, maybe, yeah, I am saying the halberd rules. Because it does.

Zulgyan,

What document format is that chart in? Heck, if you still have my e-mail would you just send it to me? There are some differences I would have in my weapons, like the G. Axe I would have as 2d6, so I would appreciate the document so I can customize it to my particular preferences.

So do you have time to convert that poison document to english now? I would have but it looked like I would have had to use the dictionary a lot, and I would likely have missed a lot of important meaning in translating it.

CS I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the 3rd Edition and UA you made... I downloaded it a while ago and still look through it. An immense undertaking and really cool in my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing! 30 megabytes well downloaded.

Chris,

I just wanted to mention that I LOVE your rules. Now if you could just get them published in hardcover...

Thanks danbuter and Moorcrys... praise like that makes the effort more worthwhile. I've gotten a few e-mails from people who are actually using these rules, which is extremely kewl.

If I could print these rules and get them bound it would be great but, legally, I think that would be a bit of an issue.
