Hi Ya'll from a new guy

Post by CabbitCommando »

Hi! I have been ghosting here for a few months & finaly registered.

Last Origins (2007) I was walking by the breezeway when a girl asked if I wanted to play a game. I was heading back to my room, but it was a girl that asked & I am easy like that. It was a non-d20 based fantasy game which was a plus in my mind. When 3.0 came out I was at first excited. Later I became indifferent. Now I am disenchanted with it. Well, this game seemed a little complex, the rule book was huge but it alot of nifty info & they were giving a way free copies to people who played. I thought I had found my new favorite game. My trip to Origins was not in vain. I had the high point of the convention.

I was wrong.

The next day I was wondering around looking for something to do while I was waiting for a friend to show up when I met this guy in the breezeway looking to run a game called Castles & Crusades.

Now, I had seen a copy of the game in a local game store. It looked kind of interesting, but money is short & I already was thinking it would be easier to modify Old school D&D than try a new game. I prefered Basic D&D with added home rules rather than AD&D 1st or 2nd with many rules cut away.

Any ways, I was talking to the guy & fliping thru the rule book when my friends showed up. C&C looked better than I thought. It seemed to be the D&D/AD&D old school game I was looking for! I made up a knight & the CK (I forget his name but thank him eternaly for introducing me to C&C) made up new character classes for my friends. I was impressed by how quickly he made something up that didn't seem to break the game or slow things down in any way. We played the game & had a blast! After the game we went to the dealers room & I found a copy of C&C. I didn't have to think twice about buying it.

C&C was what I have been looking for/trying to recreate with D&D & AD&D! As soon as I could I went out & bought the Monsters & treasures guide. I have been known to stroke my C&C book & whisper about my Precious much to the amusement of my friends.
Anyway at least one friend of mine has bought the game also & I keep talking about running a game as soon as I finish up this game world I am working on. I do have some modules I got off the net that I might be able to run some time as one shots when our current games end.
Anyways, ya'll seem to have an active community with many interesting ideas. I admit I can't get a game without tinkering with home rules. C&C is real easy to modify & plays REAL fast. THIS game is the shining jewel of my trip to Origins this year.

Thank You Troll Lords for putting out this game, & Thank You guys for keeping the forums alive!

Glad to have you!

I love C&C for much the same reasons, and even when I house rule I don't feel like I am really changing anything, it feels more like clarifying and defining.

Wait till you've been running it for a few months and you realize the "old magic" is back.
