Converting d20 ability scores to C&C

Post by shane »

We're going to run this week's D&D game with C&C, to kick the tires so to speak. I want to convert the characters. As far as ability scores go, do you:
1. just use the same ability scores and then change the modifiers or

2. change the ability scores to match the modifiers?

A bit hard to answer that because of the way D20 Attributes progress with levels. I would go for straight conversion, which is what I did the other day when converting three D20 characters over to C&C. The Fighter with 18 Strength and +4 to Hit and Damage became a Fighter with 18 Strength and +3 to Hit and Damage.

Player Characters with a 12 in Attribute X may feel 'ripped off', whilst those with a 9 in Attribute Y may feel the benefits.

I would do as Matthew suggests. It puts more emphasis on the score and less on the bonus.

Oh yeah, forgot to say the characters are only 2nd level so they haven't had ability increases yet. Using the same score seems fine. Heh, every character has at least one 12.

Well, if you want to take into account the character generation methods of the system (i.e. in C&C exceptional scores are rarer than in 3.x), you should subtract 2 from all d20 scores to get a "statistically equivalent" C&C score. Otherwise, do as you please

Whenever I convert something from d20 to C&C I bring the stat straight across, and alter the modifier. So an 18 becomes a +3, instead of a +4. This isn't nerfing the characters, if you compare monster stats from one system to the other. If you leave character stat modifiers as is it will become Superhero SIEGE C&C.
