The Kuo-Toans are an ancient race of fish-men that dwell underground and have a burning hatred of the surface dwellers and sunlight. A typical specimen looks like a paunchy humanoid covered in slimy scales and topped with a fish's head.Their hands and feet are webbed. They wear no clothing, only using a leather harness to hold weapons/equipment. They speak a corrupted form of Elemental Water speech and underground trade-common. They favor such weapons as barbed harpoons, spears, daggers, weighted nets and man-catchers. Some Kuo-Toa use special "glue-shields" coated with a sticky substance. If the Kuo-Toa hits an opponent, he is stuck fast to the shield and gets a -2 penalty to all rolls/saves until he can make a strength check to break free. Kuo-Toans also tie cords to their harpoons/wrists to capture prey. They worship the foul water Goddess, Blibdoolpoolp.

Kuo-Toans have several speial defenses. Their skin secretes a slimy coating, making them extrmely hard to grapple or hold. Grappling, tieing, or ven Web spells only have a 25% chance of success. They can see/sense invisible, ethereal, or astral creatures. They are immune to all Illusion based spells. They are immune to all poison and paralysis. Electric attacks do half or no damage (if saved). Magic missiles only do 1 damage each.

They are vulnerable to fire, taking maximum damage and -2 saves. They dislike bright light, taking -2 all rolls if hey must operate in daylight or its equivalent (light spell).

A smaller group of Kuo-Toans will be a raiding party with the following extra members.

every 4 2HD warriors=1 level 4 Fighter

every 8 warriors=1 level 6 Fighter

every 12 warriors=1 level 4 Whip(Fighter with equal Rogue abilities)

If there are 20 or more, it is a major war party with he following members.

1 level 10 Fighter Captain

2 level 8 Fighter Lietentants

4 level 3 Whips(Fighter/Rogues)

1 level 7 Monitor (Monk)

1 slave/captive per 4 Kuo-Toans.

Not much is known to surface-dwelling sages about this violent subterranean race. They prefer a diet of fish & flesh, but grow fungi and kelp (tended by slaves) to supplement their food supply. Kuo-Toa treasure tend to be pearls, and gem-encrusted itms of a water motif, along with items captured by raiding parties.

Details on Kuo-Toan lairs & strongholds soon to come.

Very nice write-up. I am getting the itch to get a monster or two out there as well.

These sickly fish mongers and their slimy "secretions" serve only one purpose - slaves and indentured labourers for the Lizard Kings.

Their misguided mistress, while perhaps large boobied, is truly a pawn for the ONE who deserves all praise and attention; the demon lord Sess'Innek!

Soon I will post the stats of the Deep Ones...then all these pseudo-godlings will kneel before the one true master, Great Cthulhu!

rabindranath72,

Actually, the Deep Ones paid homage to Father Dagon and Mother Hydra before Great Cthulhu! And Cthulhu himself paid homage to Yog-Sothoth.

Sorry, couldn't resist, being an old H.P. Lovecraft fan.
All hail Yig! The father of Serpents.
