My Campaign - Taking Down the Giants

Post by AnthonyRoberson »

I had an interesting situation the other night in my C&C campaign. A party of 12th level PCs discovered the lair of some stone giants that was located in the steep walls of a valley. The party's wizard used fly, invisibility and arcane eye to scout it out. Then he did something that I didn't expect...

He positioned himself above the central cave and sent in an arcane eye to use for line of sight to cast project image straight down 50' into the cave. He cast fireballs, ice storm, etc. through the image and safely wiped out most of the giants. *SIGH*

Did I run anything wrong rules-wise here or was this just an example of a smart player?

Im not an expert, but here is my opinion. He must have line of sight to the Projected Image. Also he must concentrate to use the Arcane Eye, so he couldnt use it for line of sight to the image and then still cast spells.

It sounds like its time for your clever Wizard to encounter a Basilisk with his scouting Arcane Eye. Then he'll get the hint.
To defend: This is the Pact.
But when life loses its value,
and is taken for naught -
then the Pact is to Avenge.

OOPS. you are right. The spell requires concentration. I missed that. Thanks for the tip. They won't be using that little trick again!

Certainly was a creative approach though.

Me, I'm inclined to allow it for pure inventiveness.

But only once.
