Does C&C Ever Incorporate Third-Party "Open Content

Post by TheNewGuy »

Just idly curious here ... I recently bought the Eldritch Sorcery PDF from Necromancer Games, and found quite a few interesting spells in there.

It got me thinkin' ...

While I've seen lot of discussion in these forums about converting published fantasy magic for home-game use, I don't think any of the C&C preview materials I've downloaded, nor the PDF adventures I bought to check out C&C (still waiting on my actual books ...) include any outside open-source content beyond the SRD.

Say, for example, Peter "20 Dollar" Bradley is writing a C&C adventure for publication by TLG, and wants to include a C&C version of the d20 open source spell "Canoodle Callipygian Consort" that he found in some third-party d20 spellbook. (he didn't -- I'm joking here -- look up `canoodle' and then `callipygian').

Would Peter include the spell in his adventure, and cite its author and source in the OGL page, as per standard procedure, or do the ruling Troll Lords prefer not to deal with this sort of outside, open-sourced content at all?

I notice that a number of d20/OGL publishers seem to prefer to create nearly-identical "knock-off" versions of open-source spells, items, and whatnot with slightly different names, rather than deal with any material not generated exclusively in-house.

While I can understand the attitude, from a certain perspective, I do wonder if C&C ever has -- or ever will -- incorporate open content from other sources.

There are a number of worthy third-party open source monsters and spells out there; would any of these ever appear in a published C&C product, or is it simply not something TLG wants to wade into?

Again, I'm just curious,
