Some rules for Zero-Level Characters

I finished some rules for zero-level characters that I've been messing around with. They are a bit of an homage to the old 0-Level rules found in N4 Treasure Hunt, but I think they mostly original.
Anyway, I humbly submit, for your perusal, my rules for Zero-Level Characters.
Please, let me know what you all think! Questions, comments, and critiques are always welcome.

These look quite handy. I'll give 'em a close read later today.

I think it will work. I don't know if I would go so strong on the thematic front myself, but it definitely looks like it will work and is thematically strong.

I agree with you, Treebore. But I tried to give all the classes equal opportunities for advancement. I tried to stary away from 1st level abilities that were static (like a monk's save bonuses or the knight's mount) and some, like the barbarian, were just plain difficult to fashion class attempts for. So, contrary to what I wanted to do, I had to add in some thematic things. But I tried to keep it to a minimum and tried to make them fit the classes.
I hope you find it interesting!

We were talking a bit about 0 Level Characters over in the Dragonsfoot Workshop recently and JerryB pointed out an article in Dragon #51 that you might like to take a look at (if you haven't already).

Looks pretty good. I tend to go a bit simpler, but this works.

Glad it's generally liked, so far.
I tried to keep it as simple as possible, while keeping as many distinct class choice possibilities as I could.

Great idea. Goodman games has a low-level, and 0 level adventure "Heroes are made, not born". TSR had one too, I cant remember the name, very old.
It might be interesting to have players start as "generic" o-level characters then progress into level 1 of their chosen class.
Example- An orphan apprentices himself to the local hedge Wizard & becomes a level 1 Magic-user. A strong farm boy leaves to make his fortune & becomes a fighter. etc, etc.

Exactly, Blood Axe. That's what I was trying to go for here - a player can start out as just a person and, as he travels/explores/exists, tries out different things as he goes along. Maybe he picks up a battle-axe and some chain mail armor and tries to use it effectively, maybe he finds a wizards spell book and tries comprehending the most basic spells contained therein, or maybe he tries praying to a god for guidance. I wanted to make a fun little set of rules that were also functional and as realistic as I could. Hopefully, they came out alright!
The TSR module with the 0-Level rules was called Treasure Hunt.
