Stat me this,serl or anyone.
My fave of peters art is the horned serpent on pg 118 phb. I want to integrate this beast into my upcoming Night Below campaign and wanted sum opinions on stats rather than reforming an other beast. Danka.

Yay no cannons..but cannons are fun. Ya I will tweak it,you have inspired my monster sub brain. I do think it is worthy of its own stats because its just soo cool to look at.

Well, the drawing does resemble a beast from the bestiaries called a Carestes. I posted stats for the Carestes on these boards some time ago, but the beast in the drawing is at least 5 time the length of the original Carestes.
CARESTES, GIANT
NO. ENCOUNTERED: 1
SIZE: Large
HD: 9 (d8)
MOVE: 30'
AC: 14
ATTACKS: 1 Bite (1d12)
SPECIAL: Hide, Poison, Flexibility, Twilight Vision
SAVES: P
INT: Animal
ALIGNMENT: Neutral
TYPE: Beast
TREASURE: 2
XP: 30+2
The Giant Carestes is a 30' long serpent, red to yellow in color. Atop its head are a pair of goat-like horns. It prefers to dwell in sandy desert areas, where it buries itself in the sand awaiting prey. It will leave its horns exposed so that the effect is like a partially buried animal skull.
Combat: A Giant Carestes attacks with its poisonous bite. It has no effective attack with it's horns.
Hide: If a buried and undetected Carestes senses prey, it will burst forth to attack, automatically gaining surprise.
Poison: The fast-acting venom of a Carestes causes its victims to save versus Constitution or be slain instantly.
Flexibility: A Giant Carestes is even more flexible than ordinary snakes, and seems to move as if it had no skeleton at all. It can freely strike any opponent within 20' of itself, no matter where which way the monster is facing or where the opponent is located. It can wrap around obstacles, and thus ignore any AC bonuses due to shields or cover.

ooo yea that works. I can use the sand trick rather nicely. I think ill tack on construction too. Oddly the stats work for a daksun monster also(horned snake on old dm screan) I too love the historical monsters, gurgaler being my fave, it spawned the modern gargoyle but was probably a whale. Thanks. edit can u post/link the normal type, Ill use them also.

What would be cool is if the creature could ingest sand, heat it up into molten glass and spray it at people as a breath weapon.
Talk about your lens grinders.

Ooo think of what its lair might look like ,kinda crystal cave meets alien. O the looks on the faces as I discribe the glass enshrouded bodys and the thin filiments shining in the torch light, mmhhhaaa..aahhhaaa ok..im...ok. That really needs to go into M&T2 I know yellow dragons breath sand but never have i heard of molton glass, that is a $idea$.

Maybe I'll write it up then.

Sure. I wish I could take credit for the sand trick thing, but it's straight out of the bestiaries.

The Carestes is a 6' long serpent, red to yellow in color. Atop its head are a pair of goat-like horns. It prefers to dwell in sandy desert areas, where it buries itself in the sand awaiting prey. It will leave its horns exposed so that the effect is like a partially buried animal skull.
Combat: A Carestes attacks with its poisonous bite. Its horns are not strong enough to to be an effective attack.
Hide: If a buried and undetected Carestes senses prey, it will burst forth to attack, automatically gaining surprise.
Poison: The fast-acting venom of a Carestes causes its victims to save versus Constitution or be slain instantly.
Flexibility: A Carestes is even more flexible than ordinary snakes, and seems to move as if it had no skeleton at all. It can freely strike any opponent within 5' of itself, no matter where which way the monster is facing or where the opponent is located. It can wrap around obstacles, and thus ignore any AC bonuses due to shields or cover.
