Add in an encounter with desert zombies and there's some really neat encounters to be had.... maybe a mummy in the mix. Heh.

Or if you're feeling particularly blood thirsty as a CK, a demi-lich with a pair these as "pets".

Nice Monster (as I copy & paste!) PERFECT for desert & "High Planes"

One question, would holy water be more effective against them? Also what about LARGE amounts of normal water?

Holy water would affect them as it does any undead...

Large amounts of water...fire hose...no problem. Grand Hoover dam breaking all at once...Wiiiiiiiiipe Out! (I would think)...at least temporarily. Treat it like stong winds...though triple the time it takes it to reconstitute.

When I do sand / dirt-based monsters I tend to not have water hurt them, but solidify them, acting as a slow slow spell. If the water is a massive amount, I have it act as a death effect.

But, it doesn't have to be that way -- depends a great deal on the purpose and desires... and "ecology."

interesting

This actually reminds me of the Fritz Leiber story "Our Lady of Darkness"... it's a horror story featuring a monster not unlike what you've created here. You might take a look sometime given what you've created.

I've always felt real horror is derived more from the innocuous and our own fears than a bunch of slash n gore. Hence my attempt to create monsters of more subtle natures.

Serl...you're right about water causing dirt and dust to coagulate, though the more fluid there is involved the less of a slow effect there is likely to be due to the greater liquifaction of the wetted soils.

In the case of the wraith, since it actually destroys water on contact, it's more of a CK decision as to what volume overwhelms the creature's ability and begins to have some sort of potential effect of whatever duration.

Great amounts of water that overwhelm its dessication power are likely to erode the creature away as wind does to fine particles at great velocities. (errr...sorry. work rearing its ugly head there. )

I could never get into the Fritz Lieber stuff...but I read four libraries out on mythology by the time I hit my freshman year in school. (two school and two city)
