What Equipment Would You Add???
Hi,
I was thinking about making a new equipment list and was wondering if you had any ideas about what to add to a medieval equipment list.

I would personally like something like the 3rd Edition Arms & Equipment Guide:
New Weapons & Armor
New Materials (unless I'm mistaken, something C&C hasn't touched too much on yet)
New Adventuring Gear
Evenything to candlelabras and farming tools to the examples Morgus gave
Clothing
Always been a big thing for me, personally, but lists of clothes available for when characters aren't wearing armor (I know...blasphemy). (This can kind of be covered by using said A&EG, but I'd rather have it in a C&C book, personally )
The list goes on to include: foods, new poisons, trade goods, vehicles (for at least land and water), Mounts (of all shapes and sizes...this also includes exotic mounts and new barding for all mounts), hirelings, and maybe even a few new magic items. Again, it would basically be taking the Arms & Equipment Guide (one of the best 3.x accessories produced, IMHO) and replacing 3e stats for C&C stats. That's my wish anyway.

Yep, I would buy yet another version (a C&C version) of a book like this. Awesomeness!!

If you have or have access to the Lejendary Adventures Essentials or LR4APs books, they have some excellent equipment lists.

OK, that it!! I'm gonna do it now!!
Ever since my gnome illusionist from 2005 ~ Crayloon used his diggery do against his foes, I've thought it could be a hurtful experience to get hit by one (if it's made of bamboo of course)!
So without further ado (or diggery doo), here's my list of damage from musical instruments if used as a weapon:
Drum - 1d4
fife - 1d2
Gong - 1d2
Harp - 1d4
Horn - 1d4
Mandonlin - 1d2 +1
Bag pipes - 1d3
Pan pipes - 1d2
Whistle - . . . (unless a nat d20, then a 1d2)
Zither - 1d2 +1
Flute - 1d2
And the winner . . .
Diggery doo - 1d6!! [Playing the diggery doo before attacking ~ +1 to hit]
Oh and bards get +1 on all attacks!!
[Btw, where the hell is the lute?? MUST HAVE for C&C!!!]

ok...let's get back on track guys.
Anise seeds for scent huh? Wouldn't the trail of anise seeds be then easier to follow than a normal scent?
But please, keep stuff like that coming at me. I like the marbles one too. Sounds like perfect sling ammo.
Can you mention any others?
Sure we could list the mundane tools but for what use besides the obvious? Not sure why one would take a rake into a dungeon.

Concentrated eucalyptus oil. Great for foiling creatures that track by scent. One whiff of that and the tracking creature will spend most of the rest of the day sneezing its brains out.

I've added things like mess kits, smoking accessories and other flavor items. I thought weapons and armor were complete enough so I didn't add anything there.

Oh ya. Every character should have a mucket. Reenactors ought to know what I'm talking about, but for everyone else. A mucket is a large tin mug, double thick two layer container with a lid. One can cook anything in it.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about World Builder. There's some pretty nice equipment lists in there.
I do agree with JG - armor and weapons are pretty complete, IMHO. I would add a lot of mundane things, or things not touched upon too much in the PHB - clothing, sundries, specialized equipment and the like.

I pretty much added all of the equipment that was in AD&D 2E to the equipment lists of the C&C game. However, if a PC wants a particular items, unless it's unreasonible I set a price and let them buy it.

It is, in my opinion, that detailed and varied equipment lists actually are idea and role playing generators. The eucalyptus oil for example, can be used for countless applications in a FRPG; it could be the point of a whole campaign, who knows?!
That is why books like World Builder (a personal fav) are so good. Lists like this get the mind working.
For a great list of equipment check out the Palladium Fantasy Role-Playing game. The cost of the items in this book will no translate, but the lists are detailed and interesting.

I'd add expert quality weapons, armor, and other miscellaneous stuff. Mostly, though, I just come up with a price on the spot if a player tries to get something not listed. I don't consider the PHB to be the end-all of item existence.
