Cones

Cone area spells like Cone of Cold and Colour Spray are described as "5' wide" but 5' wide at which end? And how wide is the cone at the other end?

Well, in d20, the cone pattern is like this:

But that's more like a breath weapon AoE, I think.

In the case of Color Spray it says 5' wide cone with a range of 25', I assume that means it is 5' wide at the end (basically just a straight row of five 5' squares/hexes on the grid).

Generally, 5 feet wide at the base, extending outward to the range. They tend to be double or triple at the far end, but do not have to be.

That would make more sense. It's just the wording is a little unclear.

The way I usually rule it is that the range of the cone is how wide it is at the end. So Color Spray would start 5' wide and would end at 25' wide.

wording in spell description.

It's tacitly understood on the TLG boards that whatever serleran says will be unclear.
