Old School Character Sheet Preview

Here's a preview of page one of the sheet I am currently working on to replicate the old AD&D 1E sheet:
Like I have mentioned elsewhere, I used the 'old school' C&C sheet created by another gentleman (I don't know who did it, but I would thank him if I did) as a basis for this one.
My intent was to clean up the artwork on that sheet, and provide more room to write character information.

The Elder Eye. That's who did the inspirational piece.
Yours looks good.

Credit where credit is due then: Thanks to the Elder Eye for the original sheet.

I'm checking out C&C to replace our v3.5 game. That simplified character sheet almost makes me want to cry tears of joy.

Welcome RPTroll!
Where ever did you come from...
And the good thing is 3.5 stuff can be converted with minimal difficulty...
Nice sheet! I'll be snagging that one soon

A pyramid with a big freakin' eyeball told me about the forums here.
Thanks for letting me know about this site Emryys... although mudpyr8 gets the credit for telling me about the system today.
I plan on buying the players handbook tonight.

Welcome!
And be sure to read the 'SEIGE Engine Mechanic Analysis' thread if you are coming over from D&D 3.5...I think you might find it really helpful.

Welcome, RPTroll! Another Texan C&C-er!
Melkor, when you're done with the sheet, might I bum a copy? Pretty please?
...if it would help, I've got pdfs of the original AD&D goldenrod sheets I could shoot over for comparison/etc.

It's just a damn shame Texas is big enough to leave us Texan Crusaders still scattered to the winds.

Its sorta weird. Every forum I post to has a Texas contingent. I use an open source product called maptool (
http://rptools.net for those interested ) for online map sharing with my friends who are all Texans scattered to the four winds. After I used their tool for a while I realized almost all of the developers were in Austin.
On another forum all the moderators are Texan but the site itself is Dutch!
I'll leave it to each individual to determine whether we're a gift or a blight.

Yup, welcome one and all. There's a lot of new faces and that's good news for everyone.
Melkor, that is one sweet looking sheet. I don't know much about format and all, but is there a way to make it so we can type into the fields? I always hate ruining nice sheets like that with my chicken-scratch writing.

Melkor, that's one sweet a**e looking sheet. Well done.
RPTroll, welcome to the crusade. Be sure to check out Treebore's (et al) excellent article "Why Play C&C?". And as C-Kyle has said, feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Thanks for the comments folks.
I'll do a little research on form-fillable PDFs when I get the sheet finished. The first page took longer than I expected it to (since I had to recreate the artwork, then lay it out from scratch), and I suspect the back sheet will probably take even longer.
If it's not too difficult, I'll be happy to make a form-fillable PDF available along with a standard print PDF.

Now THAT is definately good to hear. A nice looking sheet with the added bonus of being able to type the info in? Love it.

If you can make a form-fillable sheet that allows a picture to be entered, it would be incredibly awesome (or awesomely incredible, whichever).

Looks good, if you manage a form flow doc I will definitely use it for the PreGens I run at Cons.

I have extensive experience with form fills on PDF's. Its quite easy, but can be time consuming. Unlike a normal 3rd edition sheet with all the skill boxes, this one should only take an hour, maybe two at most.
On areas that have the same shape, you can copy the field you just made and just move them into place, but you will have to rename them. If you don't, filling in one will fill them all in since they will have the same name. That can be useful as well in situations when you want to repeat the same data over many fields.
I also recommend not making the box's Rich Text Format, it can cause strange errors, and Adobe does not alway display the text edit box for some reason.
You can add a 'box' in the characcter sketch area to add pics, same function.

I just wish you could save the form fillables without owning the full version of Acrobat.
Anyone know of a legal trick for doing it?

If you can modify the text, you should be able to use any kind of PDF page extractor, like PDF995 or whatever. That program, by the way, has some neat tricks to it...

If I remember correctly, CutePDF has a form filler.
