Weapon vs. Armor rules

Post by Heavy_Crossbow »

I had the good fortune to play a game of C&C the other night. It's been a while since I played (I mostly run), and it gave me an interesting perspective on the rules. And with this new perspective, I began to question a few things about the rules.

I am an enthusiast of historical weaponry, and from the great detail of the equipment section of the C&C book, as well as GG's World Builder, I gather that the people in charge of this game are as well. Anyway, I was bothered by a few things.

My dwarf wielded a pick and a heavy crossbow. We were up against some foes in half-plate. I chose the pick because I thought that it would be good against armored foes. And yet I could find no rule that reflected the pick's capacity to penetrate plate armor. I encountered the same problem with my heavy crossbow. Is there some rule aobut penetrating armor with picks or crossbows that I overlooked, or should I houserule it? And if so, what suggestions do people have for such house rules?

And is the lucerne hammer supposed to be one-handed? I know that it was frequently used one handed, but I am just surprised at the D12 damage, considering other 1-handed polearms deal around D8 damage.

And one final thing: Shouldn't all classes be allowed to use the crossbow? DnD 3.5 allowed all classes to use the crossbow, which I thought was a good reflection of its simplicity of use. I mean, it was a very simple weapon to use, wasn't it?

These can all easily be house ruled, but are there any suggestions that you have, or rules that I overlooked?

You have not overlooked anything. The rules as presented BTB does not differentiate much from weapons designed specifically to pierce armor.

You could always use the rules for such things from the 1E DMG.

I posted some here, and I believe there was something in Crusader as well -- nothing "official."

Short answers...

Pick: No Bonus

Crossbow: No Bonus

Lucerne Hammer: Two Handed

Crossbows: Maybe they should...

House rules are the answer.
