Divine scroll use with INT or WIS?
Divine scroll use with INT or WIS?
Heya.
This came up last night, with a 2nd-level Druid trying to read a scroll of a 2nd-level spell. Even though it's divine magic, does he roll INT to use the scroll properly (a crappy score), or can he use WIS (high & prime)?
Thanks!

Wisdom would be the most logical in this case. Arcane and divine magic operate on differing principles.

BTB, if the scroll is divine and the person attempting to cast the spell is a divine caster (as long as the spell is on his spell list). Because the 2nd level spell he is attempting to read is of a spell level higher than he can cast, the druid must make a widsom check with a challenge class of the level of the spell he is attempting to cast (in this case the challenge class is a 2 for a 2nd level spell).

The only thing I see in the book says INT ck (doesn't specify Arcane v. Divine). p.48 3rd Printing PHB

Tis true that that example is given in the PHB under using scrolls. However, I think the "Using Scrolls" section is particularly badly worded and was not intended to be specific to INT checks for all scrolls. I guess if you go by the RAW words, than Bighara is right...
Although, going by the RAW words in the 5 paragraphs that are the USING SCROLLS section, the rules contradict themselves at least on one occasion.

Divine scrolls do not require checks to use, which is the reward for their obscurity and general impossibility of finding. One may allow a check, naturally, but that is a punishment / penalty -- in such cases, the governing attribute is always used, which for divine spells is always Wisdom.

Is that a BTB answer Serl, or an interpretation? Because the ruling in question is not obvious under the Using Scrolls section of page 48 PHB 3rd printing.
