Post by Galadrin »

I don't have my books handy, what is the conversion rate in C&C for all the coins?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Thank you sir, very speedy. For some reason I was thinking C&C had electrum, too. On second thought, doesn't Castle Zagyg feature ep?

I don't remember it being in there. Rhu or one of the other Yggsburgh/Zagyg trivia experts could tell you.

I use:

10 cp = 1 sp

5 sp = 1 gp

5 gp = 1 ep

10 ep = 1 pp

Heh, I think Matthew and Ghul are the coinage experts, but I do know that electrum is not used.

Hmm, it's interesting that the World of Greyhawk featured electrum and platinum, but Yggsburgh/East Mark does not.

Not trying to be snarky, serl, but why do you place more value electrum than gold? Wouldn't it be more valuable than silver but less than gold? Unless mixing it makes it rarer and more valuable.
Back on topic (), am I remembering correctly that Yggsburgh doesn't even reference pp?

I place it as more valuable because it is not used by many people, so I did it to be contrariwise to "accepted norms."

In UW there are encounters that list electrum as treasure you can earn.

Some time ago a friend of mine pointed out that the average person can't easily tell the difference between silver, electrum and plantinum and so in reality EPs and PPs wouldn't be viable. He got round this by simply ruling that EPs were just smaller GPs.

Its been my experience "average" people have a hard time telling the difference between gold, brass, and sometimes even polished copper.

Hmm... could you scam peasants by recasting electrum pieces in the pattern of gold? I'd think they'd have some folk methods of finding the difference between silver, gold and electrum.

I don't know about that, but I fondly remember the Fool's Gold spell. Now that was pretty nice.
Fool's Gold, 2nd level Wizard, 2nd level Illusionist

CT: 1

R: 10 ft.

D: 1 hour/level

SV: None

SR: no

Comp : V,S,M

The caster can temporarily change items to resemble gold. Thus, he or she may change copper pieces to gold or a clay statue to a solid gold one, for example. The caster can affect 1 cubic foot per caster level. Anyone who interacts with the "gold" (holds it, inspects it thoroughly, and the like) is entitled to make an intelligence check (with CL equal to the caster's level) to determine that something is amiss. After the duration ends, the item(s) revert to their previous state. The material component for this spell are the items to the changed and powered pyrite (which is sprinkled over the items during casting).

Only if peasants are rich enough to be worth scamming.

Peasants can be scammed in numerous ways. There are easier ways than recasting metallic coins which would likely require a smelter (rather obvious) and / or a mint. T'would likely be simpler to use colored glass or quartz to replace gems in a purchase.
