C&C White Box / Collectors Edition play?

Post by Molotov »

Howdy All,

I (finally) picked up a copy of the C&C Collectors Edition at DundraCon the other weekend (along with a small host of other C&C stuff ... not the "one of *everything* that Stephen and I saw on Sunday, but still ... ahem.).

While I've got a copy of the PH, M&T, etc., I find something compelling about the extreme old school-ness, and the size / portability of the White Box set. I'm eagerly looking forward to adding Towers of Adventure as a matched set.

Is anyone actually running any White Box games? Perhaps with a few of the other character classes added in?

Thanks!

I am running a Collector's Box set campaign right now. It is... basic to say the least, which is quite refreshing. I haven't added any addtional classes, but did add some spells and magic items as we went along. For the most part, we are playing by the letter of the book as much as possible.

It's cool, but very basic. If that is what you are looking for, then C&C Collector set is for you.

Best luck!

I have ran a game using just the white box -- game plays just the same, if not a little quicker at start because of fewer options to choose from. Provides a little more breathing room for both player and Castle Keeper creativity, to let you flex your SIEGE muscle a little more. I also prefer the monsters more, other than the descriptions, as they are more in line with how I wanted them to be.

Any chance we could get the entire text of the PH and M&T in the digest size? Maybe three (or more) hole punched so it can be carried in a planner? It's a great size, easily transported to the field.

I'd like to see digest versions of the simple options that are supposed to be in the CKG.

I love the C&C Collector's box as it is what I started with some 4 years ago. It did indeed feel totally retro or old school when I bought it and read through it. I repeatedly compared it to my Holmes' BD&D.

Heh, I recently looked through the RN adventure and noted a couple of NPCs classes that had not yet (at the time) been published ~ knight and druid.

Anyway, I've been encouraging my nephew to think about using the C&C Box to run a game.

And finally, yep . . . good thought C&C Box + Towers of Adventure = easy fast and quite gaming!!

There's something to be said for that. Plenty of the small publishers (in the story game crowd) have been going with the digest sized books. The new Savage World and Wild Talents: Essential Editions are both nice digest books at the $10 price point.

Of course, TLG already hit the $10 price point with the full sized softcovers of PH and MT.

I'd settle for just a C&C collectors version of adds similar to Greyhawk, Blackmoor, etc. - though in this case, selected rules (additional classes, spells, etc.

Yep - now just waiting for Towers to come in to one of the FLGS on special order.
