I love the attitude I'm seeing here!

I'm new to the boards and new to C&C. But already I like what I see a dozen times more than D&D 3.x. The reaons? Well, the simplicity of the system, the lack of headache-inducing lists of feats, skills, minute rules, etc. But the thing I like the most is the attitude of the players. This forum is littered with hundreds of posts, all from folks who are expressing their ideas, house rules, interpretations, tec... all to enthusiastic feedback and suggestions. You can't do the same thing on the WOTC D&D boards in my experience. If I go on to the WOTC boards and suggest some ideas about how I'd like to change a rule to fit my style (such as hit points = CON, or some sort of penalty system from injuries or limiting clerical spells to those ONLY associated with their domain), I'll get pilloried. Real life example: I suggested I wanted to play a PC wizard who would not engage in combat and therefore should not have an increasing BAB. I was crucified by people suggesting I was trying to steal extra skill points for giving up BAB, while others were agast at the idea, since touch spells would suffer. I was just trying to get "into" a character, and yet all I got was grief.

But here, you'll get ideas. Suggestions. Alternatives. And, best of all, a welcoming enthusiasm. You're encourage to fudge the rules to your style, instead of being hung, drawn and quartered for daring to play around with the rules (imagine suggesting doing away with feats on a 3.x board). It's great!

A game should be fun for all involved, no matter their 'method', otherwise why play?
Welcome aboard.

That's my feeling. But I continue to be amazed at the vitriol I've received on 3.x boards for going against the grain.

I agree! I've been impressed with the amount of civil conversation on this board. It seems people here accept other's opinions as valid as theirs and politely agree to disagree all with a good attitude. It's so refreshing!

This is sad and funny. Sad that some people cannot think out the box/rules and must play strickly by the book Funny, in that Gary, Frank, et. al. and DMs everywhre - have thrown out or added house rules, it seems from the beginning of the game. To me, the D&D/C&C game begs for rule bending/adjustment to fit the needs of the DM/CK and the people playing the game.

Anywho, welcome to the game!

Enjoy.

What? How DARE you suggest a rules change to C&C????

Oh, wait. We like that.

Never mind!
Seriously, welcome aboard and feel free to share your ideas and suggestions. I can't say all will agree, but we'll all be polite about it!

Well, except for Peter. Everyone knows what a rules lawyer HE is!

Peter gets upset when you need a rule! Just do it!

Oh, and welcome to the crusade! Definitely share ideas, we are all looking for them. Part of why we love C&C is we become "co-creator" of whatever we are running. 3E took that away from DM's.

Plus people don't seem to get that lists of skills and feats actually limits you. Like the way I do "feat like actions" is they tell me they want to attempt a feat like action (such as Cleave, or just an "extra" attack). If I think it is something they should be able to do I tell them the TN which I adjust by the HD of the creature they are attempting the extra action (or special action) against. If they beat it they succeed in doing it, if they don't the creature made things too difficult to carry it out.

In my game there is not "limit" of feats you can attempt. 3E limits it to specific feats, with an assurance of being able to use it as a pay off, if you meet the requirements.

C&C restores creativity and control to the CK.

Welcome. And I must agree with you that the community on these boards is friendly and welcoming. I don't post on many other sites for reason you mention. Welcome to the Crusade!

Agree 100% with everything you said. One other thing I would add: having those endless feats, abilities, etc, makes D&D unweildy and unmanageable. C&C's attitude keeps things lively and avoids the rules lawyering you get in D&D 3.x. In many ways, C&C is more what I hoped AD&D would become.

Didn't I say that? Oh! I have said that, just not in this thread! Just further proof that great minds think alike.

Glad to see another won over by C&C.

Also, yes. These boards have some of the greatest people around. Friendly, helpful with the right level of eccentricity.

In any event, welcome to the Crusades!

One of the things that I like most about this forum is the feeling of comraderie. Every time I come here, it's like walking into an episode of Cheers - seriously! The Trolls are regular guys who joke around with the rest of us, and everyone gets along for the most part.

Alright everyone....who's our "Norm"? Our "Woody?" Sam? Cliff? I should run a poll....lol

For the new joiners, if you like home rules type adventures, I've posted a link to 5 of them I wrote which can be found in the C&C Adventure Mods topic (But you may have to go back a couple months to find 'em all.)

Hey, Serleran, maybe it's time to add my website to the C&C links list.

Welcome to the crusade! I've been a browser of all sorts of forums for many years, and this is the only one I consistently post to (and steal from! ).

Oh err... did I say stealing? I meant borrowing (long term).

Stuff like the 'signature spells' for clerics of specific deities.

Reduced EVs for magical armour.

And some others I've already forgotten.

I have too much to work on, and feel I better serve the C&C community if I am not here posting, but finishing, or working, on those other things... so, until I am able to not have stuff to do, I'll just be around infrequently.

Well, that's a good reason! Please tell me its so you can finish work on the CK Guide and get it out by year's end...
