Racial class question

Post by Lurker »

I have to keep it short (there is a line for the computer here in the billeting office). Ive been kicking around the idea of making racial classes with expanded abilities (Sylvia elves having a fey like green walk ability, high elves having a lore type ability or can cast an automatic spell or 2 no mater what class and in any elven made armor etc). Multiclassing would be mandatory for the character to have the abilities of the standard classes

If I do have the racial class advance in experience points similar to other classes, would that remove the limitation of only having 2 primes?

Thanks for the help

It only depends on what you want to do, and how -- if the XP costs are high enough, then perhaps opening the Prime restriction is OK. Then, its just a game of number comfort -- are you willing to allow 3 Primes for 600 more XP, or 5000? Really your choice.

The way I do it, the race class is still restricted to two primes, but the primes also are fixed to specific abilities. There are two class primes in this instance. Course, the race classes have extra goodies to compensate for that.

Two primes

Lueker,

I would recommend you stick with two primes for non-humans.

I would agree that elves stick to two primes (dwarves, as well) simply because in our game s their racial advantages really make up for it. And "lifting the restriction" or "awarding a third prime" (really just a point of perspective) now begs the question of how are humans going to stay balanced now that other character races have three primes. I have no issue with adding power to player characters but not so selectively.

I have to agree with this as well. The demi-human races have so many special abilities that make them in many ways more desirable than humans, that the 3rd prime really makes up for that.

Stick to two primes. The other abilites of the race will make up for the lack of prime. Plus, the only real benefit to the Human race is 3 primes.
