[quote="gideon_thorne"*chuckles* I actually enjoy playing a Paladin. I have one character who is one. He's about 15th level now, and I started the character back in 1982.

Game masters enjoy when I play paladins, other players not so much. [/quote]

Oh yeah, my favorite character to play was a paladin. And he almost certainly would have wanted to attack the drow immediately!

Interesting thread, and good conversation!

To clarify, suggestion does not have a somantic component, only material and verbal. The verbal component is the actual suggestion and the material component is a small piece of wool rubbed between the fingers while the suggestion is being made. So it can be done covertly.

Were I the CK in that situation, I would probably be okay with the paladin accepting a parley from the drow. If the suggestion spell was cast, failed, and the paladin notified/realized of the deception attempt, then I would fully expect (and be okay with) the paladin immediately attacking the drow.

Of course, I would have also been okay with the paladin immediately attacking the drow, assuming he knew of their race and could discern their alignment. Or at best, allowing the drow to retreat whence they came.

I think the player did okay by attacking, IMHO.
