Nope. I don't like skill systems in D&D (or C&C); class and background is all I need, there. I like skills just fine in skill-based game systems, though.

YEP. I came to C&C exactly because it was not a skill based game.

Skill based games are out there and I avoid them, I came to C&C because it provided a blessed island amid the diplomacy checking/bluff checked/etc etc roll based games.

From my POV skills can go jump, thank god i have a system (eg standard C&C) which allows a more old school players a skills based approach without the hassle- eg primes and non primes. If i wanted more hassle i'd play 3/3.5/4e.

I've stressed a LOT that the adapted 2e-NWP system that I have been using is purely for adding small bonuses to SEIGE rolls. It is NOT a skill system. The SEIGE mechanic does that quite well on its own. I just wanted to add something to help give a bit of... individuality to the characters.

Just because a character does not have a particular proficiency does not mean that he cannot attempt that action or skill. Proficiencies simply give the character a bonus when he tries to attempt that action. It's important to not become trapped in the mindset that since a character does not have a particular proficiency he cannot attempt a particular action!

Proficiencies are a way to handle the question: What is the character particularly good at? Proficiencies are NOT skills. They are a way to augment the SEIGE system. A character that has 16 Prime Strength and the Blacksmithing proficiency is better at making things through blacksmithing than another character with the same 16 Prime Strength who does not have the Blacksmithing proficiency. It is a simple as that.
