Steampunk setting ??
Steampunk setting ??
Hey folks,
I'm just starting my own campaign using the C&C rules because they are so cool and easy to use. I want to run a steampunk campaign but i have not been able to find any info on stats for firearms. I figured i'd ask if anyone had any weapon stats on items like flintlockes, blunderbusses and the such. I can make my own up but, I wanna make them balanced with what exists in the game system now. So i figured i'd give a shout and see if anyone had this info already done up or info on were to find it to cut down the time i'd have to invest creating everything from scratch basing the info from other game systems. Thx in advance .... Happy gaming

In the BECMI D&D system there was a setting called Blackmoor that got Steampunkesque in some places. They even had an alien spaceship with laser blasters. The lasers were statted as "Wands of Blasting" and did either 3d6 or 6d6 damage based on their size.
Fantasy Flight Games came out with a d20 mini-game called Spellslinger that had a lot of Western style firearms.
And, I think there was a section in the D&D3.5 DMG about firearms. If your familiar with converting D&D stuff to C&C that should work. But then again, nobody seemed to use them for D&D3 either.

Re: Steampunk setting ??
One published source is the Freeport setting put forth by Green Ronin. Their C&C conversion doc has rules for gunpowder weapon use.

Can't recommend that PDF enough. You get guns, magic items and plenty of beasties and CnC NPCs for a nice price.

One note on the firearm rules. While the gun chart does not have a 3.X crit range, in the rules paragraph, there's one line that still mentions feats, but you can turn that into a SIEGE checks instead.
In play, the rules have worked out great and their local gunsmith is an ally of their as much as the local blacksmith. Usually, they fire a gun first round and then make a SIEGE check to switch to melee weapons.

I like 12 to Midnight's Steamworks is pretty darn good, though it is for d20.

I still say that the GR is your best bet and doesn't need conversion.
But as for d20 gun rules out there:
FREE:
Monte Cooke's Technology web bonus for Chaositech, which is quick and dirty steampunk rule set
http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?arch_stuff62
Privateer Press's alchemy gun rules
http://privateerpress.com/docs/privateer_firearms.pdf
As for d20 steampunk settings at various prices and suppliments:
Iron Kingdoms
http://privateerpress.com/iron-kingdoms/books
DragonMech
http://www.goodman-games.com/dragonmech.html
(some one around here tweaked the steampunk mage to CnC.)
If you don't mind expanding your efforts to convert 20 Modern then just do a search or DriveThruRPG.com for d20 and steampunk.
OGL Steampunk

For not so steampunk, but DnD meets Old West and steam tech, there is Spellslinger, but it's a mini-game where it would be easier to just use the SIEGE engine for skill checks and run as is.
(I didn't know that 12 to Midnight had put out a steampunk book, I'll have to check it out.)

I haven't checked out the Green Ronin one yet but I will have to!
It's really not hard to convert from d20...but I guess if you don't have to, then that could make a product a bit more appealing. I personally look for items of a particular genre that fulfill my needs. If I have to look outside a system to do that, I will...at least until TLG gets everything covered. Traditionally, GURPS supplements have been a wonderful resource in this capacity.
Another really good steampunk product was/is Sorcery & Steam in the "Legends & Lairs" line by Fantasy Flight Games, if you can track it down (there was a pdf available, last time I checked). There's one review at RPGNet, but I take everything from that place with a grain of salt (it's an average review).
Whatever you choose, there's plenty of information out there on the subject. Good luck!

Green Ronin like to print things, so I'd assume there hasn't been enough demand for them to make this a print product.
As for me, it's one of the few PDFs that I've gone ahead and printed out ... by accident.
I'd print only one section that I'd need and then another and soon enough I had all but one chapter (Sanity Rules) in a binder. I can't complain.
