Two Spells For Wicked Witches

Post by clavis123 »

Here are two spells inspired by folklore and accounts of European witchcraft. They're just the thing to bring misery to unsuspecting PCs!

WITCH'S MOUNT, Level 4 wizard, level 4 cleric
Confers strength and flying ability on a humanoid, and compels them to service.

CT: 1 | R: 30 ft. | D: until dawn

SV: Charisma negates | SR: Yes | Comp: V, S, M

This powerful work of maleficium forces a single humanoid victim to become the mount of a witch. The subject is entitled to a saving throw. If they fail they are under the witch's control, and will allow themselves to be ridden like a horse. The mount so bewitched retains its natural humanoid shape, but is granted the ability to Fly (as the 3rd Level spell), a base movement speed of 60 ft., and carrying capacity equal to a riding horse (i.e. 150 lbs as a light load, 300 lbs as a medium load, 450 lbs as a heavy load.). Powerful witches and warlocks will use this spell to fly to their gatherings, or simply for their own amusement. Both they and their Infernal patrons consider this to be a better mode of transportation than a simple Flying charm, due to the misery it inflicts upon the hapless mount. Alternately, the spell can also be used to turn unlucky people into virtual draft animals who can be harnessed to help plow fields or drag heavy loads. A Witch's Mount can only be used in ways that a normal mount or draft animal would be. They are not compelled to fight on behalf of their new mistress, for example. If actually attacked they can defend themselves.

Like many other works of maleficium, the spell lasts until dispelled by the rays of the rising sun. A victim's memories of the time they spent as a Witch's Mount will be hazy, and the entire experience will seem like it was a dream.

The material component of this spell is a small human-shaped doll made of wax and wearing a miniature bit and bridle.

PRODIGIOUS REGURGITATION, Level 3 wizard, level 3 cleric, level 3 druid
Causes a victim to vomit numerous strange objects and creatures.

CT: 1 | R: 60 ft. | D: 1 turn/level

SV: Constitution negates | SR: Yes | Comp: V, S, F

This horrific curse causes a single victim to be wracked with terrible nausea and abdominal pains. The pain is such that the victim suffers a -2 penalty on all attacks, saving throws, and SIEGE checks. In addition, each turn the victim will vomit out a strange item or creature which may cause additional effects. The object or creature vomited is determined randomly on the following table:

d10 | Object | Effect

1 | Glass | 1d3 points of damage.

2 | Toad | Save versus poison or hallucinate for 1 turn.

3 | Pins | 1d4 points of damage.

4 | Snake | Snake attacks as normal. Venom is weak (type 1).

5 | Knife | 1d3 points of damage.

6 | Insect | Stung for 1 point of damage.

7 | Egg | No damage, 20% chance egg hatches into either a chicken, or a Quasit that will attack.

8 | Newt | Save versus Poison or take 1d6 damage.

9 | Feather | Save versus Con or suffer 1d4 points choking damage.

10 | Fish | No damage, everything tastes fishy for a day.

Anyone witnessing an incident of Prodigious Regurgitation must save versus Wisdom or be Stunned and unable to act for a round.

The effect of this curse may be stopped with a Dispel Magic or Remove Curse spell.

The Focus for this spell is a small bottle that contains broken glass, a toad skin, pins, a snake head, a small knife, a stinging insect, an eggshell, a dried newt, a feather, and a fish skeleton.

She turned me into a newt -- I got better. She's a witch ...... (Apologies to Monty Python)

Love these spells. Good job.

Good stuff. Witch's Mount reminds me of a ghost story that was in Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark, I think.

I forgot, of course, to mention that as a side effect of the Prodigious Vomiting spell the caster will thereafter have the same weight as a duck...

I believe you're thinking of the story where the witch uses an enchanted bit and bridle to actually change her victim into a horse. Which would be a very good idea for a new magic item.

The "ridden by a witch" motif is very old and widespread, and occurs in numerous forms. I think it makes a great adventure seed for the PCs as they start to figure out that the nightmares they've been having are really memories of being used as mounts and beasts of burden at night.
