Barbarian's Intimidate Ability

Howdy!
Just started playing my first C&C character, a Barbarian Elf. Quick question...how often does he get to use his Intimidate ability? The rules are not real specific on that.
Thanks in advance,
TGryph

As often as they want. Subject to the level and number of creature limitations per level.

Since Intimidate, BTB, only affects combat rolls against the barbarian, it will make one think twice about tangling with him. Though, since intimidate could theoretically affect all rolls, a clever player could use the barbarian's intimidation to affect many other types of rolls too.

I'm not even sure that it only affects combat rolls against the barbarian by the book. Nothing in the description mentions such a restriction. I'd certainly allow barbarian characters to use Intimidate against any target of equal or lesser hit dice and allow the ability to affect all rolls. That certainly seems to be the intent to me.

One thing about the classes in C&C, its stated earlier on that the class abilities are to be given wide latitude in their interpretation. So feel free to give as much or as little to any class ability as you wish. That is the 'intent' of the authors.

Agreed, which is why I always try and remember to end my statements with such disclaimers as "to me."

I second Jackal on this. The book says it affects all rolls including but not limited to initiative, attack, damage, and attribute checks.

C'mon guys...aren't YOU going to attack him yet?

I agree, but the example the book give are combat related. The intention of my post was the a clever player, by the use of some neat roleplaying can use the Barbarian's intimidate idea for all sorts of non-combat related rolls. Going exactly by the book, you could affect any Seige roll in the game! That's pretty crazy... INTIMIDATION!!!

The general guideline is the Barbarian can not be as intimidating as Chuck Norris. Otherwise, there is wide latitude, BTB.

The ability quite clearly stipulates that it is produced when displays of force and power are utilized, which could include nearly anything, from haggling with a merchant to in-combat situations versus many foes. There are, also, several limits to the ability -- the character has todo something intimidating (which may have negative consequences, such as, say, if used in a King's court), it can affect a limited number of individuals (based on level of the barbarian), those affected get a save (though, admittedly, this is not necessarily a limit), the targets must be equal or lower level (again, not really a limitation, except at the lower levels of play), it ends when the barbarian stops doing whatever he was doing to start the effect (this is not directly stated in the rule, but it is a natural extension of what is stated -- this can mean a very short-term result for the check), and it only works within 15 feet (so, against weak-kneed archers, like kobolds, it is nearly useless.)
So, yes, it is very powerful and a clever player could have a lot of fun with it... there are still ways the Castle Keeper can keep it in check, if that were a concern.
