Best C&C Character Sheet?

Lacking an official 4th edition character sheet (if not for the one found on the back of PHB) I have searched the Web for a downloadable Sheet... I have found most but one in particular has struck me to the point I use only that:

The Michael Davis one.

You can find it here:

The 4th printing character sheet.

The thread is even stickied.

I still like the Mad Irishmans old school sheets best, including his spell planner sheets based on the 2E spell sheets.

I always create my own as I have at least one really picky player when it comes to character sheets. And I enjoy working on them anyway. I don't have it hosted anywhere but I'm happy to send it out if anyone wants it. I doubt it's anything special considering the many quality choices already out there.

I'm a similar sort... many character sheets but none fit the bill so I got fed up a while back and created my own.

I've received several positive comments on it and it's available here:

I've got to go with Moriarty777's sheets overall. They are the most useful, but IMO (and no offense to anybodys character sheet creations), there is nothing better than a good old fashioned piece of notebook paper! I even like the notebook paper better than my own personal character sheets... found here:

Your the one who did that!

Cool! I wanted to comment on it but when I saved it I didn't put your name in it, this time I did.

I like 3x5 index cards that have a race/class, some stats, Doritos stains and some root beer (or Dr. Pepper where I can find it) spills... and maybe, if I feel like it, a name for the "character." I don't need or really find fancy character sheers useful. In fact, I tend to find them distracting because I'm looking at them rather than playing.

Sorry I was referring myself to a past week when the sheet was not there yet.

You are right. Indeed I had seen it sharply a few days ago but then I forgot to look at it (I was in office) and to download it, but I do not cared too much because I found what I was searching for a few days before. I do it now.

Anyway the favourite CS question stays true. I really like the Mad Irishman work, I follow him by 10 years now, he has not updated the C&C section sadly.

No worries! I often ignore the stickied threads myself, to the point where I only noticed that thread even being there a few days ago myself.

Even though the Irishman hasn't updated in a long time, I still like his best, especially the spell planners, plus I like the fact he leaves it so we can turn the various layers off.

Yep, Mort's sheet is my favorite. It seems a bit more adapted to folks used to the 3e D&D style of sheet.

I have tried all the sheets i can find.

My group loves these best
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/php4/archive ... fileid=179

Simple clean easy...only need to write in a BTH line on it.

The lack of spells on the sheet is a huge plus IMHO.

We use sheet 1 and 2 , with different spell sheet for casters.

Yeah, Rigons sheet is nice too. Wulfgarn has done up see real nice and fancy looking ones as well. I don't think he posted them anywhere, just distributed it among our group.

That's very nice indeed. While it doesn't cover a few of the things my picky players want, I think I might use yours for any demo games I run. Well done sir.

You have a really good point about simple notepaper or index cards.

Thats how I played for years and never had a problem.

I now have fancy character sheets and forget what I am wearing on my own head.

Agreed. This is the one we use all the time. Even before he "fixed" the encumberance modifier charts.

Plus, I swiped copies of a lot of his other sheets.

That's my favorite as well!

quick question, it won't allow me to save the sheet once I have filled in the forms, is there a way around that? I'd rather not retype everything every level gain.

Yes, use a full version of Acrobat and not just a reader.

Thought that might be it...
Those are not free correct?

Not legally free. However, there might be ways to get around it... maybe a PDF Editor, like CutePDF. Sometimes you can extract the pages, import them into something like OpenOffice and then re-create the pdf from there. Lots of steps to do it, though.

I like the one I made in excel. Autofills through out the sheet. In the middle of revising it to taking into the changes in the 4th printing.

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I have a newbie question about this sheet.

What is the difference between the columns "Checks" and "Saving Throws" and how are saving throws determined?

I've ordered my PHB, just waiting for it to arrive.

Checks are , lift the rock.. Strength check.

Saves are , fireball.. dexerity save.

by TomeRaider2
OK, understand that.

Would the "target numbers" be the same? I guess I'm just confused as to why there are two different columns on the sheet if you are using the same number for a dexterity check vs a dexterity save for example.

The "Target Number" thing is a hold over from earlier printings and, IMHO, needs to be removed. It is more or less the same as Challenge Base.

Also, a Dex check does *not* include the PC's level unless it's a class-based check, whereas a saving throw always includes the level.

Here are some threads that should help with your questions:

I missed this the first time around... basically, if you do not have the full version of Adobe Acrobat, there exists a few free alternatives which allow you to fill out / edit the fields of the form.

Foxit Reader will do it though I'm less of a fan of the most recent versions of the program. My favorite and what I currently use is PDF-XChange Viewer.

Thanks Frost.

I'm guessing I should just wait for my books to arrive. Maybe most of my questions will be answered in them?

I've read through the threads you listed before, but today they seemed to make more sense. Maybe I'm beginning to catch on
