New to the Crusade

Post by Korgoth »

Based off of reviews and posts I've read online, I took the plunge and ordered the C&C PHB 2nd printing off of Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm excited.

Mainly, I'm interested in the game because I want something lighter and quicker than 3.X, that preserves the Old School feel, is backwards compatible with all my old stuff and is easy for me to houserule (without breaking 15 other things by so doing...).

So, just thought I'd introduce myself.

Also... how do you add a sig? I didn't see the option in my Profile page.

Welcome to the Crusade, Korgoth. You'll be able to add a sig after you've posted about 5 or 10 times (not sure of the exact number).

Welcome to the Crusade, Korgoth!

I think you'll find C&C meets all the requirements you list. And you'll also find some very friendly (and knowledgable, too!) folks on the boards here to bounce your ideas off of.

Game On!

-tvp-

p.s. It must be 5 posts to add a sig, since I've got one and I haven't broken into double digits yet.

Excellent. I'm considering using it for something like the Jack Vance "Dying Earth" books. As well as just adapting some of the great old D&D modules of yore. Maybe even trot out the old Deities and Demigods and use the Nehwon material (too bad I don't have the printing with the Lovecraft stuff...). But I'm definitely into the swords and sorcery type of feel.

You'll feel like you have been "reborn" by your third gaming session.

Welcome!

Also, have you seen www.cncplayer.net
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

That's good to hear. Because I've been kind of losing my interest in role-playing of late (I've painted up lots of nice Flames of War minis, though!).

Pretty much all the gaming I've gotten to do in the last few years has been D20. I'm just bored with all the extra rules, and the fact that combats take way too long for my taste.

For example: I was a player in a fun game that met every 2 weeks. We had a sizeable combat (about 6 PCs vs. about 12 villains) and it took all evening! I'm not even there for the combat - I like to ham it up with my character (nothing too serious... I like to play sort of a dry satirical part if possible) and explore the world. Instead I get a tactical wargame where I only get to move my one single not-optimized-for-combat piece about every 10-15 minutes. Fun for some, maybe, but not me! In the old days, in that time we could have had several fights, met a new monster sprung from the fevered dreams of the DM, encountered a trap, lost a retainer, scored some treasure and even had an actual in-character conversation with somebody!

At the end of the day, I'm just there for some laughs with the guys & gals, some heroic moments and some tragic, horrific or maybe just intriguing plot twists. Whether I can make a Whirling Power Spring Dodging Strike at +2 makes practically no difference to me at all. And even if I'm playing a Nimble Fighter/Rogue, this or that maneuver is not really going to have anything to do with how I play my character. More important are his opinions on the relative merits of Dwarven Grog or Elvish women ("... best experienced together or not at all!").

So I'm chomping at the bit to be reborn! Even though playing any time soon is not really an option... life is kind of busy right now. But temporary setbacks do not discourage Korgoth!

Welcome to the Crusade and the boards. May you find what you are seeking. There are many paths, but if they all end with the result = you're having a good time, then you're at the right place. Luckily, C&C says "I'll be the toll-less bridge between those paths..."

Welcome to the Crusade! Although I'm a long-time roleplayer C&C is relatively new to me. The few sessions we have had have been a blast though. As I've said before, the d20 fanatics were pleasantly surprised and the old die-hards didn't notice the difference.

Well met. 8)

Obviously most people who are here are fans, so you are unlikely to get a bad review, but honestly the switch not only got some new "retired" players into the game, but really re-energized my own GMing. As I type I'm putting together an adventure, and not having to look up and calculate the feats, skills, and stats of every darn goblin they run across is a relief.
