No, no, no, don't you recall, this was clarified in Dragon Magazine...

Issue 55 lists Robin as a 12th level fighter

Though Issue 45 lists him as a 14th Level Archer...

Issue 11's article on Quarterstaff fighting doesn't give class stats, but states he hits on a 7!

Issue 62 when talking of the NPC Class The Bandit speaks that they may be NG in alignment, ala Robin Hood!

Issue 104 claims him as a Thief, of an "avenger" style as per the content of that article.

Issue 140's article on weapon specialization talks about a fighter that wants to be a Robin Hood like character should take the bow...

The Team Spirit article in issue 208 calls him a Heroic Bandit

The 241 article Legacies of the Suel Imperium describes a barbarian-ranger of the Robin Hood type...

There, now I hope that clears up the mystery!

I was a bit amazed to see that the name Robin Hood appears on 88 pages in 58 issues of the first 250 issues of Dragon. 23% of the first 250 issues of Dragon have some sort of reference to Robin Hood, tell me that doesn't talk to his, albeit muddled, archetype as a grand adventurer!

168 pages, 124 issues, 50% of the first 250 issues!!! (ok 49.6%, no seriously do the math )

Issue 36 has Gary's article showing Conan at different stages of his life... one thing that was interesting was the waxing and waning of his character level over that time, from a low of 4 at age 15 to a high of 24 at 40, and down to 12 at 70.

Lots of appearances in Letters, Forum, Roleplaying Reviews, The Role of Books, much the same as Robin. From the articles I reviewed, it seems not as many directly providing statistics or suggestions, but referring to Conan in descriptions and contrasts. My favorite that I came across started like this...
A couple of fantastic flops

by Gary Gygax

Conan Meets The Flower Children of Set might have been a better name for the film and if there is any resemblance between the cinema version of CONAN THE BARBARIAN and that of Robert E. Howard, it is purely coincidental. The disappointment which began to grow inside me about one-quarter of the way into the film was not mitigated by anything which happened later on. In fact, bad became worse. I refuse to become involved in even a brief synopsis of the movies story line.

I was laughing my posterior off reading that. Gary did say that "the Governator" did make a passable Conan, but that everyone know Conan had black hair, not brown. Ah, gotta love Hollywood, don'tcha? OK, maybe not...

I'd definitely say RH has some fighter in him, from his time in the crusades. After being forced into exile into the wilderness, I'd say he has some ranger in him, too. Add in a little rogue, too, for his propensity to steal. So definitely some multi-class action in there somewhere.

Under new C&C rules. I kind of view Robni Hood as a Ranger with thief as a class and a half.

If there is a archer class then archer with thief as a class and a half.

I don't see any need for RH to be anything other than a straight fighter or ranger, or at a stretch, knight.

I thought the latest RH movie was great.

I also thought his accent wasn't that bad- and who's to say what it would have sounded like 1000 years ago anyway?

All I know is more classes = good. If you don't want them in your game, don't use them. For those who would want them, they'd be there.

I love the idea of more classes and races introduced in campaign/setting books.

I love pirate campaigns and I think that a swashbuckler class would be cool. Although you could probably crossclass a rogue and a ranger and come up with a passable one.

alternate builds is another cool concept, but if your CK is a purist then your probably screwed. An fighter with dex as a primary would be a good start to an archer, or con as a primary and he could be a guard.

One thing I noticed early on about the game was that it is ok to change things up in your game. If you want to monkey with things to make your own class go ahead. I'm sure the guys in the ivory tower in Little Rock wouldn't mind.

Of all the class options, I would greatly appreciate a race-as-class option, though I have done this on my own already... I would like to see how my views differ from others, as I did not take the traditional D&D trope approach.

Dude! That tower ain't made of no ivory!!

And it's lucky it just got one of them indoor outhouses from what I hear!!

PS and your right, they wouldn't mind, in fact they'd be very happy for everyone to do just that with the rules, classes and races...

And if he really was captured my moslem forces, he probably has had some Moor in him too.
What? I'm just saying...

Yeah thats called BD&D as I understand it.

then we get into these sort of conversations.

"Well if Bilbo was stealthy then obviously halflings are a rogish type class."

"Yeah but what about Brandobus Took? The hero that knocked the orc leaders head off and invented the game of golf?"

"You dullards! Everyone knows that Merry was made a knight of Gondor, so obviously they are of the knightly castes"

Then all heck breaks loose until LD breaks into his dissertation of the wonders of pie!

Your asking for mayhem serl.

Hi, been lurking here for a little while now and thought I would participate for once. First of all this is a great game that harkons back to the days of old. I love its complexity hidden by honest simplicity, Trolls you should be proud.

Anyway back on topic, this system was built around the extensive use of houserules and customization, since it seems to me that Steve and company have there hands full with CKG, modules, etc....

What if we as a community were to get together and come up with alternate classes, ourselves. Someone comes up with the a concept and we hash through it and come up with a viable class.

Then maybe down the line we can create a pdf netbook. Also if the trolls like what we come up with maybe they can publish it.

I don't know just a thought.

Steve

For everyone who;s been asking for a pirate class, has anyone checked out the Castles 7 Crusades Freeport Guide? I believe it's supposed to contain a "Corsair" class, but I haven't read it myself.

I've had the book for a while but never really read it over. The Pirate class looks good, I think i'll be using it for my Yggsbourgh campaign.

Cheers
