C&C compatibility session attempts at my local gameshop

Well, since coming here, unless I introduce people no one seems to play C&C in my local area. They do play 4e...and 3.X...so tomorrow night (Fri. the 05) as long as the Manager's let me, I am hoping on DMing a pretty open game of C&C, to continue on Saturday Afternoon.
The idea is that if they want they can bring any 3.X character OR 4e character to the game, and I'll be using C&C as the main ruleset and as the way to integrate the two. If they don't bring a character they can always make a C&C character. It should be interesting...as long as it is a go. In NW Florida about an hour north of Destin if anyone is in the area...send me a message before tomorrow and I can tell you where.
I'm hoping that with the characters they can bring it is open enough to at least encourage more people in the gaming community to give it a try. I've done 4e DMing there with moderate success...but C&C has always been with personal friends instead of at the game shop...seeing if I can generate at least some interest in the community here.
It's such a great system, so hopefully a few people get interested in it.

Good luck, sounds like your idea is worth a shot.

Any chance to spread the love for a game you enjoy is one that should be taken. I hope it goes well.

Unfortunately only 2 people showed up. Both were 3.5 players, so none of the 4e'rs even wanted to give it a shot. It's life...a little disappointed.
Part of it however could have been an unexpected Parade that went right by the front of the shop...I got there and even the owner's weren't parked there. The street got closed off. But, that's life.
Last night it got superseded in the shop by FNM, or Friday night magic...there were more people there than could fit in the shop...so we lost out on the spacing...
I still have my friends and family group to play with, just not any headway with the local gaming community otherwise it appears.
Time for me to get my move on again I think...maybe someplace with a much easier crowd for C&C!!!
On the plus side, the parade was for Veteran's day and was very nice.

How did the game with the two 3.5'ers go?
It sounds like to me that you had some scheduling problems and shouldn't give up on the first try. I, myself, took a year and half to be talked into CnC and then ran a 2-year campaign after wards.
Some things to consider:
# You could be trying to hard to sell the game. That's easy to do when you are excited.
# I notice that the younger crowd avoids GMs who dress the part (T-shirt and shorts) dressing up a bit never hurts. I get teased for coming in with a long sleeve shirt, sleeves rolled up, but I always have a line for my games
# Pick a non-card night. The card games are too much profit for a store owner to ignore.
# Design or steal a setting that adds something extra: Pirates, Norse, or a 300-style game. I know a guy who runs a bewildering homebrew based on AD&D and Paladium, but he has eight players who simply call it the Ragnarok campaign.
I also find that a lot of gamers chose a GM that they know first, and system second. You might want to join a local 3.5 or 4e game for a while and then offer to run something later and then introduce CnC later.

Yeah card night was a major part of people doing something else on Friday. Unfortunately for the rest of this month Every Friday and Saturday evening is what looks to be official Magic Tournaments...which rather stinks for me I suppose. Maybe next month sometime. At least I'll have the full team in town this Thanksgiving for the full blown C&C get together. Until then it's just the smaller group. Ironically I sacrificed getting together with them this weekend to try to pull this off at the local shop...
Thanksgiving weekend should be a larger crowd however...at least comparatively to the usual smaller group of family and friends I play with.

Any reason to have a game NOT on Friday or Saturday?

The only big reason is that I typically work 12-13 hour days, so the evenings are kept to either relax, spend with my kids (soccer games, baseball for other parts of the season, looks like basketball this winter), and then sleep or browse the web. Fridays I'm guaranteed to be able to sleep in Saturday Morning typically, and same goes for Saturday evening.
