Who sent What

Post by Piperdog »

John, do you think it would be cool to start a thread for everyone to chime in and list what they have sent in for this DD? I think it would be helpful for everyone involved. It may prevent similar articles from being submitted, or show where we have a need. It will also show if we are inundated with too much material, or are severely lacking and need more contributions. Format could be something like Title of Article, Author's Real Name, Brief Description in a couple of lines.

Wasn't there a thread like that in the old C&CS / DD forum?

Hey guys -

This is on my plate, so I'll give a bit of update:

I am planning on doing a thread here where I start by listing everything I've gotten and which will be going into DD V. I had hoped to do this early this week but RL has once again gotten involved, pulling 9 AM to 9:30 PM days and going into play production next week at my University... and to top off I was named chair of our institution's search committee again so I am coordinating and running interviews on top of everything else... the long and short is I haven't had much time last two weeks on this... but I will post this thread this Friday evening and contributors can double-check that I have what they sent and others can get the content peek at the upcoming issue.

I had hoped to do the layout on DD V this weekend but I now have to go out of town for family commitments - when you're only seeing your daughter for a few minutes one or two nights a week you have to make some space and my inlaws have asked us to come down to IL for Haloween. So, I have to push back the issue just a tiny bit till after I close my fall production next week - I will be putting it together on/around Nov. 10 & 11, then sending the copy to our members who will provide some eagle-eye proofing, back to me and hopefully out to everyone by third week of Nov.

We have a lot of excellent stuff, and a few tidbits I am expecting still - Eric has posted on another thread some previews of his art for the cover (PS Eric - sorry I haven't been around as you've called - see above - I will try and call soon!)

After this issue, we will be moving to our MONTHLY Society Domesday format beginning in January. The format will be a shorter PDF of anywhere between 7 and 12 pages depending on what we have for each.
1st Section - Updates on Society, news on cons, new member welcome, etc. I'd like to share photos members have of cons and events with our members here as well. The front page will continue to prominently feature member-created piece of art.
2nd Section - Games & Products, with reviews and announcements of products, both for C&C/SIEGE products as well as info and possibly reviews of other games and products of interest for the Society beyond C&C/SIEGE. Deadlines for reviews will be the 15th of each month, so that we keep closer to currency with releases etc.
3rd Section - Monster(s) of the Month - Fan created and submitted, anywhere from 1 to 4 critters with art done by our resident artists. If we have more than 4 submitted I will make editorial decisions on ones to be "rolled" over to future Domesdays... submission deadlines for Monsters will be the 1st of each month to allow for art and selection, if we end up with a stockpile then submissions will close till all in had have run.
4th Section - Feature of the Month, article submissions on anything C&C/SIEGE related with/without crunch. Could be a new class, an article on an aspect of gaming in campaigns, short adventure (4-6 pages including maps), etc. Submissions will be looked over and ranked and assigned months by myself as editor and the officers. We will have submission deadline of the 1st of each month, the submissions to close if we have more than 3 months out until we are ready to begin lining up features again. If a feature is not selected, it will be returned with some suggestions for improvement and asked to resubmit for a later edition.

Steve has posted a bit about more changes and things coming still in the pipeline, so keep an eye out for those improvements.

I will be around on Friday night!

4-6 page, including maps, adventures? Can that even be done as a whole adventure?
sounds more like a random encounter / room to me. hmmmm...gives me an idea too...

Skraeling

SKRAELING

NO. ENCOUNTERED: 1-4, 10-20

SIZE: Medium

HD: 3/6/8 (d8)

MOVE: 30 ft.

AC: 13/15/18

ATTACKS: Weapon

SPECIAL: Fear, Primal Rage

SAVES: M

INT: Low

ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Evil

TYPE: Humanoid

TREASURE: 3/6/8

XP: 30+3/180+6/375+8

Skraelings are a hardy and reckless warrior race that are known for raiding villages and slaughtering their inhabitants. The harshness of their lives has steeled these cruel folk and sharpened their warrior instincts. Rumors abound about these merciless warriors. It is said that they have the strength of many men in their sinews and that a fear that unmans many a warrior runs ahead of their presence like the hounds of doom. There are very few settlements that can say that they have survived a skraeling assault, but those that have say that the secret to their defeat lies in an enduring defense and harassing techniques.

Skraelings resemble short (about 5 feet tall), stout, and hairless humans. They are often covered with bizarre spiral tattoos that cover most of their bodies including their faces. Skraelings are known to file their teeth down to pointed edges. Skraeling society is matriarchal, and they are ruled by wise women of their tribe who have the powers of witches. These wise women do not raid with their men-folk, so they will only be encountered within skraeling steddings.

For every 20 skaelings encountered, there will be a leader that fights as a 6HD creature. There is also a 10% chance that any skraeling war party will have a champion that fights as an 8HD creature.

Primal Fury: The skraeling gains a +2 bonus to damage die rolls and wisdom saves. While in this rage, the skraeling suffers a -2 penalty to armor class and a -2 penalty to all mental related saves. All of these effects cease at the end of the rage.

The primal fury lasts the number of rounds equal to 1+ the creatures HD.

Fear: Skraelings are able to tap into a primal instinct in their opponents causing them to radiate fear as per the 4th level wizard spell. A failed charisma save indicates that the effected creature must flee from contact with the skraeling (1 round per HD of skraeling). If cornered, an effected creature fights at -2 BTH.
