I know John and I have talked about this before, but I am not sure where we are on it. I would like to see a fund started for the society where we had enough money to do fun stuff with...primarily, having parties at Cons. It would be neat to have Society gatherings, being able to reserve a back room at a bar or resteraunt and have dinner and drinks....or just enough to order a bunch of pizza and pop. Vinyl Banners, Society Tshirts for guys running demo games or con events....I could go on. I know TLG is going to take care of us to an extent, but we could do a lot together to ease TLG's financial burden. Times are tough, so donating cash to the cause may not be feasible for most of us.
Here are some things to consider as options. Bear in mind this is just me brainstorming with what little brain I do still have in tact.
1. Self-Publish a module or supplement as The Castles and Crusades Society, non-profit group in print form (and pdf) through someone like lulu. I get more and more amazed at the fans of C&C....such a talented group producing so much material, much of which just cries to be published. As a club, we could collaborate on a project to see how it goes, with all proceeds going to the Society so we have money for beer...er...I mean...to help kids learn to read. I am not sure of the legalities involved here, but we have lawyers in the Society for crying out loud, someone can work out the details.
2. OK. Brace yourself for this one. What about charging for the Domesday Book? Is that even possible, legality-wise, as we are tied in with TLG more now.
I look at the success of Knockspell, Fight On!, and so forth and think we could do well; again, this is just an idea guys. It could be done through Lulu or just a pdf download at RPGnow.
If you don't like the above ideas, do you, as a Society Member, have some cool ideas to share? I know I would love to hear them!!

Throwing a party for the Society shouldn't be a problem. You just need to find a venue and promote. Unless TLG doesn't want a party, but I highly doubt that.
After that, let's say that there just isn't enough $$$ to go around and do a swanky official Society party. Well, have Brave Halfling Publishing host the party itself, and say it's a party for all C&Cers to attend.
I can promote the hell out of some parties if you need that type of help.

Eek... while I appreciate the vote of confidence Eric, this one I'd have to ask another member of the Society to take charge of.... I think it would be a good idea, but it's a bit much for my plate

I still think one of the best things to do is to get that art piece commissioned to take to Cons and the like, to attract more people to the Society. There are plenty of good artists here, but the one I meant was the one by Mr. Jim Holloway.
