It's interesting for sure. I'm assuming it's just another version of the Condensed C&C. Though I do like the fact that there are cards to be given out to prospective new players. Seems like it might work.

I'd like the character sheets to be on cards, to show how rules lite the game is.

Looks great. Aside from the demo angle, it might be a good gift to get someone started out.

Seriously. What size is the box? Are talking the smaller collectors edition CnC style box or a bigger box like Star Siege?

I just sent an e-mail about getting one. I figured it would be good for my demos at OTC.

Any more info on this? I'd love to see pics of the contents. I'm considering purchasing this for a con of sorts (an annual event held at a buddy's house).

I am looking forward to seeing this up close! It should be a big help at the cons and demo games.

I'm intrigued by this as well. Hopefully someone will post a more detailed review ASAP once you get one. If it's really newbie friendly, it might be a way for me to ease my daughter into GM'ing.

This sure would have been useful at last years Con-on-the-Cob. I may have to check into getting tit for this year's.

I got a convention coming up in late May (Marcon, Columbus Ohio). Hoping this Harbringer thingy might be available for that time.

Here's my quick review/overview

I've just got this a few days ago via the local postal service. As one of the recent "introductory" PnP RPG boxsets, the Harbinger C&C variants contains a softcover 4th print PH (making one of the few boxsets that offers the entire rulesset for the game), 2 modules (so you can start play right out of the box: Shadows of Halfling Hall and the Haunted Highlands), and the actual heart of the Harbinger Variants; a player friendly quick-start DIY character creation kit with enough of the rules to permit creating characters for use in a C&C game. The five class choices featured in this kit (which the player presumably keeps) are: Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard, Barbarian, and Bard (with info on each all up to 6th level or more- in case of the Barbarian). The four racial choices are: Human, Elf, Dwarf, and Halfling. Unlike the previous C&C Free RPG day quickstarts, the Harbinger Variants also have the starting character gold in addition to the truncated equipment list and rules explanation.

I emailed about it so far with no reply...I would use this at several cons...too late for many this year, but Con on the Cob 2010 is ceertainly do-able.

I did. I got a copy a few days before the con, but as TLG Steve mentioned in another thread it was without some of the components (flyers, cards, etc). But the harbringer variant will still be great stuff for the convention-goer folks.
Con-on-the-Cob is going to be FILLED with C&C this year it seems.

I am hoping to see one arrive shortly, hopefully with a few other things I need (like the new Monsters and Treasure of Aihrde) but I have a few more times before it becomes critical.

What sort of conditions must be met in order to get a freebie? Do I have to demo at a regular con or can I just introduce some of the local kids to the game? (I probably missed the memo on this somehow....)

The larger the audience, the better obviously. If you want, drop me a line at my email address below and I'll send you the form to fill out. Bottom line is, if there is an untapped market and you tapping into it, we'll help out.
