Favorite non fantasy RPG?
I wanted to bring up this topic to go hand in hand with the other discussion I opened about Fantasy RPGs. So for the purposes of this thread, what are your favorite non fantasy RPGs?
Mine are Dark Heresy and Savage Worlds. Savage Worlds is super flexible and I've used it for everything from Modern Warfare RPG to Gritty Sci Fi. Dark Heresy just hits the sweet spot dead-on for me as far as a ruleset that is effectively evocative and supports the background setting near-perfectly. DH is one of my favorite RPGs of any type of all time.
So, what are your favorite RPGs that are not Fantasy/S&S?

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
First and foremost, Gamma World (1st Ed)!!!
StarSIEGE is growing close to GW in my mind, great toolset to build your game on!
Dark Heresy is great, could use a bit of tweaks, but great (can't say the same for Death Watch, though I am running a campaign in it now, way to overpowered and tilted to the PC's).
(And not to be picky, but these two topics probably would have been better suited to the Open Discussion threads.)

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Moving topics are always harder to hit.
All seriousness aside, my favorite non-fantasy RPG is -- uh....
Can't decide between Traveller (in every incarnation except Traveller: the New Error) or James Bond. Though 007's world could definitely be called "fantasy."
Would LIKE to put Call of Cthulhu in here, since it really is supposed to be sf, but it feels more like fantasy.

Deadlands, one of the greatest rpg ever seen on earth
Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Again, in no real order:
1) Shadowrun 1st or 2nd edition (made better by using Earthdawn 1st edition)
2) Gamma World, any edition
3) Basic Role Play in the guise of Call of Cthulhu
4) Chill 1st edition
5) Ghostbusters 1st edition
6) Deadlands 1st edition (not the d20 or Savage Worlds versions)
7) Torg: Roleplaying the Possibility Wars
8) The entire Palladium "megaverse" (when ran properly)
9) SpaceMaster
10) some I'm forgetting

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Savage Worlds is undoubtedly one if the best systems I've ever used at the table. There are other setting games that I like a great deal. Deadlands comes to mind. Some editions of gamma world, as well. Countless others, but at the end of the day...Savage Worlds accommodates a variety of needs. C&C, of course, is my default fantasy system of choice.

I miss some of the old favorites of mine, but I didn't want to make a really extensive list of such old faves as Star Frontiers or Top Secret/SI or Twilight 2000 since I will likely never play those games again.

Loved the list below, but it has been a long time since I played anyone of them. Though it has been over a decade since I've played anything at all... the last being Vampire: The Masquerade.
In no particular order.

- Paranoia
- Amazing Engine (Bughunters, The Galactos Barrier and Metamorphosis Alpha to Omega, being the 3 that interconnected for the longest run. Played a short run of; For Faerie, Queen, and Country and desperately wanted to play; Tabloid, but never got around to it before my group disintegrated.)
- Vampire: The Masquerade
- Everway (Even played a Mario computer game type rpg using this system.)

Sure, 3 of these are Palladium Books games. The mechanics are pretty much identical, but Robotech and Rifts, is pretty different in feel, and gameplay than TMNT.

Probably Traveller & Gamma World. I haven't played the later in eons and, only a little Trav in the last decade or so.
Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
I've only played Star Frontiers and Metamorphosis Alpha and enjoyed them immensely!
I'd like to try Traveller, Starsiege and Top Secret and/or the James Bond 007 RPG.

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Top Secret 1st Ed. was excellent, not necessarily one of my top 10, but excellent.
Someone mentioned Ghost Busters, only played it a couple of time, great fun.
One I left off of my list and realized it today, Price of Freedom was a great game... of course it was the mid 80's so it really played on the real-life tensions between the US and Soviets, so that probably plays a big part of it, still was incredibly fun. Now if I could just find my old rules...

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
I've got Price of Freedom and the supplement. Man this game looks so cool, but I couldn't every find anyone to run or play it. The game looks pretty dang complicated though. Back in the day, I tried to get a combo Price of Freedom / Fortress Americ RPG game going. We would do all of the roleplaying, and then chart the progress of the invading forces on the Fortress America boardgame. It still seems like it would be a good idea, but no players.

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
Traveller is my favorite non-fantasy game, hands down. Classic Traveller (the LBB era), MegaTraveller or Mongoose Traveller - all three rock. I still have character sheets, subsector maps and deckplans from 1979 and 1980 floating around.
"Nothing says Traveller like shotguns in space!"
A close second would be Shadowrun. One of my longest-running campaigns was in Shadowrun 1st and 2nd edition, and it was a great bunch of people.

Gamma World is top of the list for me (1st edition first, but I enjoy all editions)... then...
Metamorphosis Alpha.
Alternity (short lived... but I really enjoy it).
Star Frontiers.
Mutant Future.
And now I'm reading The Mutant Epoch... haven't actually played it but I like what I see so far.

Stars Without Number
Mutant Future (which I have yet to actually play)
Once upon a time, I would have said Traveller, which I loved (and will always think of fondly). But, Stars Without Number has a similar feel and much lighter rule set.

Re: Favorite non fantasy RPG?
I like or have liked to run...
Metamorphosis Alpha, Top Secret, Star Frontiers, James Bond 007, Behind Enemy Lines
But I've also had fun playing:
Traveller, Paranoia, Gamma World, Twilight 2000, Ghostbusters, Vampire: The Masquerade, Cortex, RISUS
And have been interested in running d6 Space or Thousand Suns.
I think I should like GURPS, but I usually lose interest before my character is ready to use.
