GenCon 2014

Post by moriarty777 »

Hi folks!

Long time gamer, first time Gen Con go-er. As of a couple hours ago, hotel rooms, transport, and badges have all been booked and paid for. I, the wife, and a couple of friends are doing a road trip from Montreal all the way to Gen Con (a grueling 16 hour trip).

Aside from visiting the TLG booth and meeting some of the Trolls face-to-face, I would love to network and possibly game with some of my fellow Crusaders!

Please chime in if you are going and what your plans may be as we get closer to the convention!

I'm going again this year. Working the booth all day, but I really dig playing con games with folks I know from the boards. There are games listed in the official program, but I have never gone to one. I just do pick-up games in the halls. So drop by the booth and give me a time and I'll probably be there.

My brother and I are planning to go (also long-time gamers and first time Gen Con go-ers). Plans-wise, I think mostly staring at the crowds of people in shock is on the agenda. Aside from that, we're looking to play a few games (tending toward OSR stuff; C&C included, naturally), do some of the events that get out into the city of Indianapolis, and ummm... try to sleep enough.

I will be at GenCon as well this year, the whole show, Wed. through Sun. It's always such a jam=packed show. I certainly hope to meet and game with as many Crusaders as I can.

I will be there as well! I am hoping to do some C&C style gaming, too, so reserve me a seat!

The jury is still out, but I hope to be there helping the Trolls. Plus, a Deadlands/Savage Worlds acquaintance of mine, Shane Hensley, is a guest of honor. How can I miss that??

I emailed the Gen Con folks a couple of days ago concerning when the Events Schedule will be available for folks to access for coordination / planning of games for registration. The reply indicated the schedule will be opened about a week before registration goes live.

Well of course I will be there running C&C games on and off the grid, as usual, with my brother. I am running several adventures, from short 2 hour introductions to mega adventures that will be in a three part series. Some of you remember Duplicity of Devils, which my brother and i attempted to run in a six hour event but could never complete it in the time given. We learned our lesson and will be breaking it into three 4 hour events. Also, my adventure Ascendancy of the Horned Legion will be a similar three day event. Gencon will be considered playtest for these, as Steve has been on me to submit them to TLG for publication but I just don't feel they are ready yet. Anyway, I look forward to gaming...and beer drinking...with my old buds from these forums. Good times await!

I will be there on and off the grid. Working on Analegorn of Thunderhold fame from the Wilderlands. Come join as the hapless PC's face off against one angry dragon.

Myself and good friend, Captain Blood, the Cleric of Verse Proclamation, whose improvised speeches were so enjoyable at your Tegel Manor session in 2012, will be trying to snag tickets for your Thursday evening event. *fingers crossed*

Well, it looks like I'll be open for whatever. My wife and I pretty much got nothing from our wishlist. I'll keep checking as the weeks roll on.

The event sold out before I could snag tickets. Dammit.

Ditto. On the one hand, good to hear there's demand for C&C. On the other hand, not getting tickets to the one event (on two occasions) does smart a little.

Me and four friends were coordinating efforts on tickets. Luckily, one of us managed to not be 2,000+ in line for processing so he was able to snag tickets for everyone. I managed to get tickets for four of the five events I had in my wish list. The one game I missed out on was C&C.

I missed out on Snoring Rock's C&C game. I only got about 4 out of 10 or so events that I registered for. Unfortunately, C&C was not one of them.

So what are you playing?

I'm in RuneQuest 6, Tunnels & Trolls, HarnMaster, Ars Magica, and DCC. I'll also be running a private AD&D "reunion game" for some friends.

Here ye, here ye! To all crusaders who run event's at GenCon, I will buy lunch or dinner one evening! I would run, but I run at my shop, really really want to play! So, I will get with all the Crusaders and find a time to go have lunch/dinner, some drink , and good times at Dicks restaurant. (if you've never eaten there, it's a great experience). So the adventure begins! (I hope anyways! )

I am new to the forums and game system, but love it!...I would like to buy all dinner or lunch and get to know all of ya. (ya'll seem ok! :D ) I will have about 6 in tow as well...my son and shop manager that play on my C&C Sunday game. If ya'll have a place other than Dick's, let me know. Anyways, as I said, I am new to C&C and would love to pick your brains on things. I've been playing D&D since 1983, so I'm not a role playing newb. Just a role playing junkie! :geek: Anyways...let me know! Oh, and I've been reading that some of you are running games that aren't on the boards, if you have room for about 3-5, let me know please!

Later!

Gregspanier. There are always off-the-grid games going on at GenCon. However, due to the nature of these types of games, they don't usually start popping up until much closer to the con. I have run C&C games at the GenCon in the past, and like you I am almost always a GM. That being said, I would rather play games at GC then run them as well. My advice, start looking for off-grid games closer to the convention. You never know what may pop up.

I saw it stated that there are official C&C games being hosted. I can't seem to find them.

Unless it's listed as D n D 1st edition.....

Any suggestions on what I am looking up incorrectly.

My girlfriend and I are going to GenCon for the first time ever! We're both very excited. We registered a little late so the official C&C games were already filled but we'd love to get in on a pick-up game sometime.

We're trying to correct the lack of C&C issue at GenCon with the following...

On the GENCON REGISTRATION thread
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14235
there was some discussion about how to get more C&C games at GenCon. We know that off-grid games of C&C happen even more frequently than the scheduled games (at times, this year seems to be one of them). So why not coordinate these off grid games for everybody?

So here's a quick and dirty idea... I started a Facebook group!

C&C @ GENCON ~ A Crusader's Guide to "Off-Grid" Games

If we want to get together, and discuss our on or off-grid games, Facebook provides and amazingly easy way to coordinate this. Plus, you can get this Facebook group on your smartphone. Get updates to on and off-grid C&C games on the go.

If you are on THE FACEBOOK, search out this group name.

I set the group up as a open group. Maybe this will be a great way to have GENCON CRUSADERS be able to coordinate a little bit more effectively. It's an experiment on a few levels. I've never created a group for Facebook, so let's see how this works. Excuse me if I mess it up. But I'll get it going. The 2nd level of the experiment is to see if we can actually get C&C players and CKs to join it!

Hi all,
It looks like I won't be running any official gencon games this year (so far anyways) but I will definitely be throwing some games down this year for whoever wants to play. As Omote said, check out the Facebook group "A Crusaders Guide to OFFGRID Gaming". I would love to play in a game myself. I think a lot of us run games at home and once we get to the con we want to play for a change. That being said, Omote we need you to run a game for us brother!

Didn't you play in one of my games a few years ago? That was like an 8-hour marathon! What more do you want from me?! ;)

I'm taking a group through Tomb of Horrors with C&C during Gen Con. Should be a blast (off-grid). :)
Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.

Like my brother, Litzen, posted, this will be my first time at Gen Con as well. I'm excited for everything, but I think getting in on some C&C and Tunnels and Trolls run by Ken St. Andre is up there on the excitement scale.
