Your favorite deity
Please, no 'real world' religious discussions.
I'm wondering what your favorite deity is from Of Gods and Monsters (or another fantasy rpg sourcebook).

I don't have that particular book. But for conversation's sake: Greek= Athena. Norse= Tyre. Egyptian= Bast. Native American= Raven

Wodan.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

They accidentally left out Maglubiyet and Blibdoolpoolp.
So, Maglubiyet or Blibdoolpoolp.

Not in Gods and Monsters, but since I have a tattoo of his holy symbol, it’s got to be Moradin.
Re: Your favorite deity
None from the book, but an old PC that ascended. He's a god of both gnomes and dwarfs.
Re: Your favorite deity
Not sure if he's in OG&M, but I'm partial to Cernunos.

Oops. Heh, just realized you were asking us to pick from OG&Ms!
Tell you what, though ~ the cover art is excellent and interior art goes from excellent to spectacular!!

I'll take Odin and Thor... but only after fleshing them out with some Norse tales to make them a wee less sanitized than in the game books.slimykuotoan wrote:Please, no 'real world' religious discussions.

Rgr that. I prefer the AD&D 1e deity write ups to OG&M, but love the artwork. Also, I like some of the weapons boons given to faithful etc in the book.
That said, of those Gods & Goddesses: Athena & Brigit top my list.

Re: Your favorite deity
"No real world religions", sorry got to take that bait... since they are ALL based on faith.. then religions of history are "real" too, just super low attendance at church ;}... heck, fantasy worlds and games have such detail and folks interested in them are so fervent in their believe, involvement, and "faith" I'd say they exceed most of my modern friends who attend a classic brick and mortar church of XYZ modern god(s).. all that aside:
Norse: Uller (got to love a bow toting skier) or Celtic Arawan (Gods of the dead rock) and many of the Dragon Mag Non-Human pantheons are pretty good for Non-Humans... Thief God for Halflings, or bow hunter for elves, or disease for Orcs... pretty fun gaming stuff in that "Best of The Dragon".
The original D&DG and the Dragon write ups I liked best.. I never liked the whole avatar business or PCs trying to kill gods...

I've always liked a bunch: Set, Ra, Geb, Poseidon, and Heimdal.
Noooooo, I just realized there's no Hercules in Of Gods and Monsters!
No awesome half-god avatar?!!

Re: Your favorite deity
Yeah, there is actually a wide range I like, but Wodun/Odin is my favorite. My favorite over all pantheon in Of Gods and Monsters is the American Indian one. First write up I have seen that actually got me excited about possible story ideas.

Re: Your favorite deity
The real Heracles was a raging butt hole. IE the Mythological one written of, not the Disney versions. He even killed his first wife and kids, which they tried to blame on Hera.

Um, if you read the original Greek stories, it WAS Hera who caused him to go mad and slay his own family...Treebore wrote:The real Heracles was a raging butt hole. IE the Mythological one written of, not the Disney versions. He even killed his first wife and kids, which they tried to blame on Hera.

However, isn't he portrayed as a wine sot in some of the plays ... (good lord, I can't remember which one, my sinuses must be worse than I though or I've taken toooo many head cold pills today to be thinking clearly if I can't remember the Greek comedies...). If he is such a wine-o, couldn't he have done it himself and blamed Hera ...
