New game in October, for C&C newbies only....

Post by Treebore »

If we can get a group together on a night I can run it, that is.

I will not run it for long. Only until close to Christmas time. This is just to give people a chance to get a solid introduction to C&C and using the online programs we use, SKYPE and Maptools.

After that hopefully those who give this a try will continue on as their own group.

So start angling to get your schedule set up so you can commit to a game on a weekly basis. Right now I can be flexible enough to run one on Monday or Wed., or as a last resort, Fridays. Time frame would be from 6 PM to 9 PM PST. I could possibly go to an hour earlier.

I am hoping to start this by the third week of October, possibly even a week or two sooner than that.

No more than 6 players.

If there is enough demand I will be willing to help another group after the first of 2011.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

I've done one game on Skype and really like the application. Tell me more about MapTools - would I need to download it to participate in the game? How does it help players?

Is this a weekly game or bi-weekly? Wednesday nights would be best for me - Mondays are reserved for football and Fridays for family. However, if either of those nights work best for everyone else, then I'll wait for 2011.

I should be able to pull this off. I've been wanting to make the jump to online games (I live in an RPG deadzone). Mondays or Wednsdays would work for me. I think the only thing stopping me would be if I found work between now and then and had to work on those days.

You DL Maptools at rptools.net. IT would also be great if we have someone good at hosting by doing port forwarding stuff. If not I bet I can get some one from other games I play in or run to help out with hosting. My server has some wierd fire wall issue that none of the guide lines cover getting past, so I have been unable to do it.

Depending on the night you guys play on, I might be able to host Maptool.

I overlooked the PST. That would be 9-12 in my neck of the woods. I can't make that time frame. Dirty barnicles.

If push comes to shove I can run it an hour sooner.

I am interested and - confession - I have never played C&C. But I would like to try and I have the PHB.

I would be up for the Wednesday evening slot. 6-9 PST would be great.

That is exactly who I want to run this game for. People who have never played, or only had one or two chances to play before, and have yet to get a really good feel for it.

I think Wed. would work best for me too. I also promised to finish running a Hackmaster Basic for several people come October, and being able to keep running it on Mondays would likely be best.

These will both be short run games, definitely done by Christmas season. To go beyond that the players will have to agree to carry it on without me. My desire is just to get people comfortable enough with the system to have the confidence to go on and run their own games. On line or off line.

Cool, between you and ssfx17 we should definitely have it covered.

I"m a C&C newbie. Quick background - I played Basic/Expert D&D for a few years in the early 1980's. The Basic box with the Moldvay rules was my first ever RPG experience. I played in a small group and we eventually moved on to 1st edition AD&D. The gaming group broke up in the mid 1980's, and I haven't played a pen & paper RPG since. I'd love to get back into the swing of things though after all these years.

I enjoy reading RPG books even without playing in a game. Those early D&D games were wonderfully fun, and I'd love to recapture even a little bit of that enjoyment with a C&C game.

I'm fairly certain I could do Wed 6-9pm as well. I wouldn't be able to do any earlier than 6, and I might be 1-2 minutes late (seriously, none of that 1-2 min my time equals 30 min everyone else's time).

It's only because I have to take the dog out after I get home
Anyway, I've never played C&C, but I love the crap out of it and have been TRYING to run a game for about a year now. I have all the stuff ready to roll as a DM, but no players...and I can't stand DMing online games (but I love playing 'em! I'm weird like that).

If this looks like it'll work, I'm willing to play any class, so I'd be happy to "fill in" whatever role/class nobody else has covered, and I'm also open to pre-gen characters, too.

OK, glad this has been "resurrected" since we are so close to October.

So how many people still want to do this next month?

Looks like Wed will be best for the most who posted before. Does Wed still stand?
