Back from Gencon 2010

Post by Troll Lord »

Well we are back and in the offices. The show was a good show, nothing stirling, nothing rock shattering, but its a good thing we were there; solid sales and alot of good feed back.

A huge thank you to Eric Piper and his brother for running the C&C Tourney. Trollzah! We got alot of good feedback on that and the brothers apparently were quit a hit, which is no surprise. Enjoyed tipping a little brew with you guys at the Wild Beaver as well, where Omote joined us for some late night playtesting. haha

All in all a good show, but I'm ready to get back to work on the CKG and other projects. My intern goes back to school next week so I have to get out the whip and get some stuff done before he leaves.

Glad to hear the con went well. I vow to get to Gen Con one of these days.

Now get back to work!

GenCon was great this year. Lots of games, and met some good people from this message board (big shout outs to Angelius and ArgoForg!). As always, hanging and chatting up the Troll Dudes is good times.

CS, you have to get to GenCon! As I tell everyone who wants to go, there's work that goes into it, but that work pays off. Plus meetin' and greetin everybody is really cool.

Hope to see everybody there next year!

~O

PS: Troll Steve... it took somebody I didn't even know to point out that my name was spelled wrong! The last name, which is the hard to spell name is good. The first name, well I'm not even sure what the hell that is. Haha, you crazy SOB!

Most definitely! It was great to meet, chat with, and buy a lot of stuff from the Trolls, (my bank account is kicking me, and I'm still on too much of an adrenal rush to notice! ) and it was great fun to meet everyone else during the C&CS game and to just have a blast.

Big Kudos to Piper for running the Friday afternoon scenario and keeping us all jazzed up, and shouts to mah homies from here on the boards (Omote and Angelius, and anyone I might be forgetting, natch!) that I met for the first time... you guys all made my first foray into C&CS a great one!

Hope to see y'all next year.... maybe I'll even look at running a Wednesday night informal game or somesuch!

I am glad you guys made Gencon. A visit to your booth is one of the highlights of my Gencon every year. When you go there you can tell you are talking to people who truly love their game. I hope to see you guys again next year!

Needless to say, my brother Jared and I had a blast with running the games, and as always, it was awesome to meet more guys from the boards. My apologies to the guys who were a bit miffed at not getting through the adventure in time (sorry Omote!) but I think overall, everyone enjoyed the story. I have learned that I am indeed a campaign CK, not a tourney dude. The results of said tourney are being rehashed by my brother and I...so stay tuned for the winners.

The brothers Piper and Chenault tipped back a few brewskies at the Wild Beaver and enjoyed chatting about modules, the rpg industry, and our scantily clad barmaidens who wore leather catgirl masks.....

Then Omote came wandering in at about 1am or so looking rejuvenated and ready to stay up all night....sorry we had to bail on you Derrick (you crazy m**o) but some of us do not have an 18 Con score.

I look forward to many more. As to events next year, someone may pick up the mantle for the tourney. I for one will be running non-scored C&C events, from intro to C&C sessions to FoB.

Sir, I was not miffed at all! It was hard to make my next game when one game ends at 6pm and the next one begins at 6pm. Poor planning on my part. However, I have to say that depite PiperDog not being a "tourney module kind of guy," he does run one hell of a game. That 5 hour block was pretty freakin' awesome as it was. If we only had a few more hours to bang out the specifics. I look forward to reading that module one day to see all of the detail and goodness that a toruney doesn't let you experience. Overall, A+ game, bro.

As for The Wild Beaver, great bar, great time. Unfortunately, my party-clock doesn't usually start until 11pm or later. Next year, I'll make sure to come out at happy hour for you weak dudes.
It was also cool to chat up Jared and PiperDog +1 (good guy and a fun player too).

Next year, gents!

~Derrick

As for C&C games at GenCon next year (2011), there seem to be some plans BREWing in the background. Hopefully those plans will come to fruition, but it seems like it may be a big deal.

One of guys who posts on here (commanderFuron) is already getting ready a C&C game of epic adventure. He's basing his module on the preview rules for high-level characters level found in the upcoming Castle Keeper's Guide. An epic adventure of characters who will be level 23+. I'm looking forward to that next year already!

Thanks for the vote of confidence O. As to the module, Steve and I talked about it at length, and he said he wants to publish it. I turned in another mod submission, and Davis is currently reading it...he said he really liked it (maybe it was the Guinness talking.....). We'll just have to wait and see what happens with this I guess.

As to next year, I hope to see TLG explode with events across the board. Seskis had great idea on claiming an area for the C&C Society for Open Gaming or continuous events. That sounds kickass to me.

No worries on my end, Piper! I really liked the adventure you guys ran, and the only disappointment I had was in myself for scheduling me and a bud for a non-game seminar so soon after the C&C game that I had to run out early. I didn't want the game to end, man! Good luck with the publishing aspect of it!

Oh, and if there's some open-style C&C/C&CS next year, count me right the hellznaw in!

He was definitely at the Con. TLG and FDG have mentioned possibly collaborating on a booth next year. Might have something to do with more C&C games next year too at Scotty's Brewhouse as I understand it.

Here's hoping.
