Star Frontiers...man...

Post by Treebore »

I finally broke down and ordered the print version of the fine series of PDF magazines, Star Frontiersman, issues 1-6, from Lulu. It arrived today and it seriously reminded me that nothing is better than print. Nothing.

Now I have to talk them into offering up the other issues as a print option.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Our group is gearing up to play Star Frontiers next weekend. I am looking forward to running it. I didn't have my copies of the "remastered" books bound, I just put them in doc protectors into binders. They are heavy, but they work and won't get messed up.

Someday I may have them printed and bound.

Hey,

How'd you get them printed? Did you upload the free magazines from Starfrontiersman.com to Lulu and have them printed?

I've got several pdf books/booklets that I'd like printed. Some places won't touch them with a ten-foot pole... I can understand places being weary of "for sale" pdf products, but when I've got my name electronically signed on each page and that name matches my photo ID... come on!!

The guy in charge of the website put them up on Lulu at cost to be printed. He was supposed to do this every 6 issues, but he hasn't. I'll have to e-mail him and ask why, as soon as I remember to do so.

Staples doesn't charge overly much if you will be happy with high quality paper and spiral bound. I am very surprised at how much I am liking mine. I did the AD&D 3E rule books CSPerkins put together.

Spiral bound is bulky, though it's nice that the pages lay flat. For myself, it would be perfect bound (tape binding), which cost me about $5 per book the last time I did it, for three books: Toon, Treasures of Middle-earth, and GURPS Players' Book (GURPS character generation rules only).

I think if I were to have a bunch of spiral bound it may start to annoy me, but these are nice and tightly done and haven't given me problems putting them on the shelves with my other books. On a tight packed shelf.
