Alternate Player's Guide Art

Post by mediapig »

I recently picked up the Black Libram of Nartarus. ON the last page is a color ad for the 4th Crusade books, including the 4th printing of the Player's Guide.

Interestingly enough, the cover art is a different pieces than what was printed, and appears to feature a group of adventurers confronting a demon or devil of some sort... it sort of looks like a female tiefling.

Does anyone know why this art wasn't used, and if it may turn up on another product?

As the Trolls said about this topic back in the day, that was placeholder artwork until the current bit of art was completed. There was a story floating arounf relating to the teifling artwork, but I'm not sure why it wasn't used.

It's funny, because the CKG also has a placeholder cover, and the art actually says "placeholder" next to it. But the player's guide doesn't. It's a cool looking cover... hope it shows up somewhere down the line!

I'm not sure what TLG is doing with that artwork. I also think that it is cool and should be used at some point. On what, well, I have no idea but perhaps as a color page in the new CKG!

I think they wanted to use it for a book dealing with demons and stuff.

I liked the art... maybe even more than the current PHB art but I agree it wasn't exactly evocative of a PHB cover.
