I've often wondered if fighter-types would benefit from increased damage output as they go up in level, for instance boosting the damage die of each weapon by one step (1d8 bumps to 1d10, etc) in order to keep up with the damage wizards and clerics can deal out.
Would this unbalance stuff? Would anyone care to 'map out' the potential damage output of a fighter versus a wizard at 10th level?
Assume 3-4 combats per session, with the fighter using a +2 or +3 longsword and the wizard having the classic fireballs, lightning bolts, etc. How do they stack up?
BTW, has anyone developed an archer class?
Mapping damage output for each class... any takers?
A wizard, if using all spells as attack spells, will generally out-perform the fighter classes in direct damage dealt, as the wizard, when higher level, can affect multiple creatures for the same damage at the same time. The fighter tends to "win" in the lower levels, like 1-4 (at 5th, the wizard can get fireball) and then its game over. However, there are creatures immune to spell X, or resistant to X, just as there are those unable to be hit by normal weaponry, so the situation is critical to know....against a golem, for example, the wizard is essentially useless.

Go0gleplex has the archer and marksman classes. I think I've seen others; there might be one in the society netbook.
