Harvesters: Critters and Creatures

Post by Deogolf »

With the blessing of Steve, I have embarked on a slightly different tangent than what I originally intended. After working on a couple of projects for the Harvesters line (Outlying Lands (done) and Black Tim's Prize (in progress), I noticed that I was including a bunch of new animals and creatures. So, I asked Steve if doing a smaller "monster" book would be worthwhile - he said, "Yes!". So, with the animals from the first adventure plus the others that I've been working on, it should be at least 70-80 different critters/creatures. I've also been able to persuade Mr. Holloway to assist us in this "ordeal" - so far, so good.

So, I may stick a few illustrations for your pleasure as they come along. Anything you have to say will be acknowledged (maybe ).

Whaddaya think?!

This is needed and will help expand the game greatly. It's a great way to go I think. And, it's also great to know that other works are already inc the can or in progress.

Thats good news

I think that would be a great addition to the game. Perhaps it could be accompanied by some sort of way of rating size as well, and what counts as vermin for rangers, etc.

The one thing that I found inconsistant through-out the initial treatment of the creatures is that that the AC and Move stats were all over the place, with out too much ryhme or reason. I realize that this isn't 3rd edition or something, but having a idea whether the AC comes from armour, dex or natural hide would be helpful.

KAW

P.S. Harvesters is going to my daughter this week with a bunch of splitered light minis... I'll post a picture of the final gift.

We're working on a diagram/chart that will demonstrate the size differences between the different animals. That will be available in the new book of critters.

Rangers. Hmm. That was a problem due to some miscommunication. The game was originally only suppose to have wizards, clerics/healers, fighters, and thieves/rogues. It was also suppose to be released in conjunction with the basic set. That didn't happen obviously. However, my definition of vermin is any critter that one considers nasty/icky - rats, weasels, etc. For the sake of the game, rangers should feel free to select any five animals to specialize in and, therefore, have an advantage over due to knowing them insides and out.

AC is somewhat arbitrary, but not really (if that makes any sense). They were given their ACs based on size, speed, fur/shell, etc. There may be some ACs that may seem a bit odd, but there was a reason I made them that way - mostly due to what I've observed when out in the woods and from TV programs. Movement rates were the same way - did they have short legs/ long legs, slow moving/fast moving, etc. The critters that were included in the first adventure will also be found in this book. Most will be unchanged, but there were some slight tweaks here and there.

The Splintered Light minis I thought were pretty darn neat, albeit on the small side. I just noticed that Reaper just released a boxed set of mouse minis (25mm, I do believe). Dark Sword miniatures also released a few -a mouse, an owl, and a turtle. Some really neat stuff coming out! Looking forward to the picture!!

Thanks for the input, y'all!

Art. Lots and lots of it. Handouts, illustrations, etc. Kids in particular need constant pictures.

Mmm. Woodchuck with a wooden mallet (maul) would be keen.
Nice stuff, though. I wish I could doodle.

Haha! That would be awesome. I love that new insurance commercial they have where the woodchucks are throwing wood into the river. Cracks me up.

Yessir, it is for the THAT insurance company. It's really not that great, but just the imagery of woodchucks tossing wood into the river while the farmer yells at them bring us some Harvesters imagry.
